Hacking an A600 for better video out? Or hack an LCD TV?

Got my 'Super 13.3" In-Car TV' today.

Check the pics for the project so far, http://www.scoopex1988.org/article-a600-portable.html

The major problem is that the screen is 1024x768 and really ok - but since PAL is 720x576, or for some other reason, it interlaces the picture.

Composite is not great on my 32" crt tv either, but it doesn't interlace 640x256. On the LCD TV it interlaces like hell, making it unbearable for more than 5 mins of coding. For some reason, connecting my GP2x to it looks better, at 320x240 instead of 640x256. Still a bit of it showing on white text, but not much.

The other thing is the crappy scaling filter. Blursville.

Any tips on how to think to make it look good?

Will S-Video help? Not with the interlacing I think, maybe for the blurriness.

Can I hack the A600 to give an output that will display better?

Can I hack the screen to not megajumpyinterlace the gfx? A 512px-height pic in the middle of the screen is ok if it looks great.

Any tips appreciated

If I bypass some circuitry after the video input, would an S-Video adapter like the NeoBitz one or this one improve things? http://eab.abime.net/showthread.php?t=32807&page=4

Still baffled why the interlace is there. ..

Yes, S-video is much better than composite. Zetr0's work is awesome, go for it.

I will bring my GP2x+svideo cable to the nearest MediaMarkt tomorrow and see if they have 12-13" screens that are better.

My screen might do if I hack it, but I'd rather spend money than too much time. If I know how to get past the composite crap it could be great cos scrolling actually looks more ok on it than the usual tft bollox.

So the problem isn't how to get s-video or rgb out, but rather I have to spend some time finding out where to connect it inside the screen, if at all possible.

Anyone here with general howto tips on hacking lcd tvs?

Result from my visit to the store was 0 screens in my size. The biggest was 10.2" widescreen with built-in DVD and good speakers, and it actually had an svideo connector! However the demo ex didn't work, and even if it had worked I would not care to spend 900€ on a tiny screen that is able to (crowd goes "ooh!") display svideo quality video.

However, I talked to one of the guys there and he gave me some tips; surveillance kits could have the right size screen, a company in the same city could have connections for those perfect little screens you see in betting shops, on airports, on expensive copiers etc.

But importantly, he said they're usually not that complex inside. So I will put my screen in a rug, drag it down to my cellar, and cut it to pieces, please don't tell the police. Muhaha

Bought a Joytech 8" from gameseek.co.uk. Much easier to hack, ie. solder a cable with 5 wires and done :P

Blurry :S pics here http://www.scoopex1988.org/article-a...-8-screen.html
