You'll need the XDK to compile anything. 5933 was the last, but 5849 is the most popular.
Do you mean that the xbe files produced with OpenXDK can't be run on a hacked v1.6 console ? I assembled a xbe with some masm32 xbox distrib (i don't know yet if it works , tho)

There is a reasonable port of SDL if you prefer that over DirectX.
I assume SDL uses a frame buffer only to do software rendering so that's not really interesting.

There are no tech-docs about the hardware at the register level. You either use the pre-compiled libraries or.... you use the pre-compiled libraries.
I assume there shouldn't be much design difference from a geforce3 (maybe even xbox linux does have a hw driver for the card ?)

For more details about video hardware on the v1.6 see here
Looks like direct video programming on the v1.6 is still not possible

It runs everything compiled with the SDK of course, but not linux.
Well technically it runs linux but the screen is a mess.

Is there a good site for acl patches? Also is it possible to apply patch for already copied games or I have to copy them again??

I would be surprised if xbe files produced with OpenXDK run on anything

X-box linux does not have a hw driver for 3D. Vesa compatible 2D acceleration only.

To answer my own question, it is possible to apply acl patch even after you copy game to HD.

I'm still after good resource for ACL files. Some of the ACL patches will save over 1GB of HD room.

Yeah some of them do, I made a load myself once using information from the net on certain games but gave up after a while because I simply could not be bothered

Can't remember the sites I used now though, it's been a LONG time

The only place I found helpful is this.

It has not been updated in over 4 years.

One more thing: I tried my xBox USB connector with USB hub and keyboard and mouse, and all works with WinUAEX.

No I haven't.

Links was fun on FreeBSD box without GUI. I might try it.

I haven't installed any scripts yet. Will check YouTube script later this week.

YouTube specific script is a bit rubbish.

navi-x is better. It has preview thumbnails and doesn't crash as often. And I think Trick Play works (that was a certain crash to the stand alone YouTube script)

Just install it directly in XBMC via the Scripts downloader script. I think it is under Media Streaming... remember to SCROLL down the list (it isnt obvious cos there are no scroll bars)

I'm done! Last night I visited my friend who has a hard modded XBOX and we used Splinter Cell and a memory to get things rolling and then we prepped a new 320GB HD by attaching it to his PC. When we were done we stuck the HD in the XBOX and everything worked straight away. I even managed to rip a half dozen games to the HD. Tomorrow I'll install XBMC, some emulators & ROMs and a ~50GB of mp3s. Happy happy joy joy.

What I need to do now is figure out where to get XBOX games. I'm dying to play the XBOX versions of Outrun.

Doesn't C2C include all of the original OutRun2 tracks/games though?

With lower polygon models and lower resolution textures than OutRun 2.

Not sure why but I think OutRun 2 was an X-box only title whereas Outrun 2006 Coast 2 Coast was also ported to the PS2?? Perhaps they started with the PS2 model in mind?

Quote:
Coast 2 Coast looks surprisingly good conisidering it is a victim of lowest common denominator development due to the fact its also on PS2. To the untrained eye the visual differences don't seem to be apparent ... but they are to me and i'll list what they are. The game is a little more jaggy, it's mostly noticable on the road side scenery like buildings etc ... its alot more jaggy in those areas compared to Outrun 2. 2ndly some of the trackside and road textures have been downgraded. This isn't really all that noticable until you take a closer look ... they do the job fine but they are a tad lower in quality this time around. Lastly and to me this was the most significant difference ... the lighting and pixel shader effects seem a little less spectacular this time around. This can be mostly noticed in the weather effects and the water ... the water looks beautiful in Coast 2 Coast but its a notch below the water in Outrun 2 and seems to be flatter (implying no bump mapping this time). Also the nice bloom lighting from Outrun 2 seems to be less dramatic this time around (it may not be there at all actually ... will need to play more to come to a final conclusion).

One other thing about coast to coast is that it has a more grainy PS2ish look to it. On the Outrun 2 tracks it's not so apparent but on the Outrun 2 SP tracks it's very apparent and they look more like tracks designed around the PS2. Now don't get my wrong, the SP tracks look nice and the design is actually quite spectacular but it's also balanced by some mediocre as well which is a bit of a shame. One of the more grainy examples would be the "big forest" route on the SP tracks ... that's run is so grainy it nearly gives me a head-ache.

Yup, OutRun 2 is an XBOX exclusive (well there's the arcade version (Chihiro hardware), which is based on XBOX hardware).
And yes 2006 Coast 2 Coast was ported to PS2, or maybe it's the other way around, PS2 version ported to XBOX.
Which reminds me of ST -> Amiga conversions.

stepping aside a moment, Coast 2 Coast on the PC is a wonderful game, proving some of the spectacular genius of SEGA software development.

simple, intuitive to play, and wholesomely addictive game play.

*ahem

I should never have modded this XBOX. I was up until 6am playing GTA3 and when I was in the car today I started thinking about running people over.

I've not used mine for native games for a long time... just as a media centre and the odd emulator game.

But back when I did... I thought that the better games included
  • Conker Live and Reloaded (Platformer) Shame they bleeped out so much compared to N64, but the gfx make up for it.
  • Project Gotham Racing 2 (Racer), My fav racer of the platform
  • Chronicals of Riddick (FPS), Some people say Halo/2 was the crowning XBOX native FPS, I say Riddick is better. Shame the film wasn't this good.
  • Star Wars Knights of the Old Republic (RPG). My second favourite all time Star Wars franchise title.
  • Fable (Action RPG). Amazing RPG game, original to the xbox
  • Super Monkey Ball Deluxe. (Erm, sport?) Before the Wii, Monkey Ball bowling sub-game was the most fun you could have with a group of people in the living room (with your clothes on)!
Games which are worth a mention but are better on the PC
  • Morrowind (RPG) I lost too much of my life to this game
  • Return to Castle Wolfenstein
  • Doom 3
  • Half Life 2
I am sure there are loads of others I have forgotten.
