Big grin One of the craziest joysticks from the past

Anyone knows this contraption?
It was produced by a polish hardware company called Matt who specialised in such gaming accessories, back in the early 90's, and was... quite usable.

Not very precise for platformers, but great for racing games or simulators (wing commander anyone? ).

And checkout the crazy design!

It had 2 modes:
- in the 1st one you could just stick it to the table and make it stable as a house

- or, in the 2nd mode you could bend it and hold in the air

Pretty wild for that time.

More Skorpion piccies on Picasa Web Album

I had 2 of those contraptions back in the days, sadly I broke the fire button in the 1st one, and the handle itself in the 2nd one.
But it was definitely more stable than a QuickShot for example...

I don't like joysticks of this type ie QSII turbo and stuff. Can't play many games with them. I did have a QSII+ only for flight sims.

I think those dreaded pistol grip pacifier type joysticks with a joystick on top are way freakier, haha

Anyone ever seen one of these? I have one now that I got my 'new' A500. It's a 'Highscreen Colani' joystick (you know that designer). Very strange thing with far too many buttons.

yeah, I think I saw something like that, for the PS methinks, but it had an extra joystick handle for the other hand and this was some kind of a cyber thrust unit with buttons, used in simulators mostly.
pretty cool, but the connector reveals it's not for the amiga

Well mine has a Amiga connector (I don't have a digicam or handy to make a photo, but will ask my neighbour to make one tomorrow). It's just one 'stick' and you have one firebutton under the tip of your forefinger and another one under your thumb. There are three more buttons on the base of the joystick to use with the other hand. Really strange thingy believe me .

If TheCyberDruid's joystick is man-sized, you could ride it and play a rodeo game or something! Otherwise, I can't for the life of me think of a way of using it.

Here are some joysticks of mine:

None of them are particularly weird, but the one on the top right is pretty rare and interesting. It's ideal for players who want to hold the lever with their left hand, and the second button from the left is some kind of autofire which in some games (such as Deluxe Galaga) gives super bullets speed. Unfortunately, if you're holding the stick with your right hand as I do it's very easy to accidentally push the right button with your palm.

@alkis21
It feels like a thrust lever, so it's really weird to play with it However I really like your idea of the rodeo joystick
I'm interested in the one that is in the upper left corner of your picture. What are all the buttons on the left for?

It is my friend, it is Almost unusable for gaming, but nice to own. I don't know, but I guess they are pretty uncommon (if not rare). Only top view shooter would be okay to play with this (must test it this weekend).

Actually that's the PC version. The Amiga joystick is identical but it only has the two larger buttons. The CMS joysticks are quite good if you are used to resting your joystick on the table (as opposed to holding it) and unlike the rest, they're still being manufactured, both the PC and the Amiga ones.

Well, I have a Gravis GamePad, and have something called a Mindscape PowerPlayer, the latter I don't have actually connected to my miggy at the moment (because the slot is occupied by the mouse...).

This site here has a nice set of really nifty old joysticks, and has another nice picture of the Mindscape PowerPlayer stick.

I really liked the look of the PowerPlayer... until I actually started using it. The stick itself, it turns out, rotates on the shaft... so that as you're holding it pushed forward, in the midst of hard game play, by the bridge between thumb and pointer-finger... suddenly you find yourself going on the diagonal without meaning to. Grrr...

The design would have been perfect if they'd made sure the stick didn't turn freely like that...
