What is an Amiga worth these days?

Clearly not this much

£350 for a Vanilla A1500 (A2000 without SCSI)

Christ... they didn't cost much more than than new!

Perhaps it's a clever trick to appease his wife..? "Couldn't sell it on eBay... it's not worth anything. Can I keep it?"

They did... I recently found a receipt for mine. £565 from some computershop in Leeds (First Computers?).

I went there (long way from Preston) to buy a HD8+ but they were out of stock (even though I had phoned up that morning and reserved one) and I was wooed into buying it by this slick salesman and the promis of £150 back if I sent in my old A500.

It was the biggest mistake of my Adult purchasing life. I was so embarrassed at what the sales guy had talked me into it affected me for years to come. Even now I scrutinise any purchase over £100.

I couldn't believe it. £415 for what amounted to a second disk drive and a monitor stand!

AND I had to buy a kickstart switcher the next week because it was KS2.04 and half my disks didn't work

Eurgh I felt the same when I traded my A500 in for a 1200... half my blimmin games wouldn't work. I hated it (long before the days of whdload ). :sigh: I miss that 500.

That 1500 is a joke though price wise

I have no idea what HW goes for these days. How much would a reasonable price be, including all the other stuff you get for those £350?

It's not so much an actual Amiga that will fetch a big price, but the Amiga hardware. I'm stunned that a Cyberstorm PPC can fetch upwards of $800 usually! The other day I saw one on there, someone had a buy it now of $1499 ish. Alex I believe you were the one that started the amiga hardware scene sucks thread and I totally agree with you my friend.

He must have been some salesman.
How on earth did he convince you of that?
He could at least have sold you a hard drive with the 1500.

I have a soft spot for the A1500. I don't know why. I just think it's nice. I once passed on one which had a 68010 and HD+ card and drive for £20.
Wish I'd bought it.

£80 (£20 of which is for the monitor) and that is being generous. It's very yellow, there are stickers above the floppy drives. No SCSI controller, no accelerator. KS2.04

The A1500 (A2000) is just not a sought after Amiga.

The 1500 is an odd one. All of the calories with none of the flavour. They never sold them in North America so I suppose one could command more value over here because of the rarity factor...

Naw. It's a dog.

Nice one, I'm just half way through pimping mine up!

I never realised I was sitting on such a goldmine, I thought it was a 20 year old hobby computer.

Hmmm, I may even sell it and buy a nice little holiday in the sun with the proceeds .

I'm not sure how far 80 quid would get me though.

You cannot possibly believe what effect it had on the rest of my life..

I was about 14-15 and I parted with my entire life savings AND took a loan from my dad... and I never got what I really wanted... which was a hard drive.

I felt such a dick

Maybe it was a worthwhile lesson learned? I'm trying to look for an upside here.

hey, I bought a 1500 from the place I used to work part time before that (Amiga 1500 with a GVP hard drive and memory....)

A monitor stand would have been a better investment.

i share your pain...

Give the A1500 some credit; you mean a monitor stand AND an 2nd floppy drive

which, if you never make use of them, makes the 2000 as much use as a 500 with extra drive and monitor stand

I had a CSA MMR in my 2000 (which would have fitted in a 500) and a Picasso II... Briefly, until I got my 3000
