Well I have a full rom set and PJ64 1.6 so I know what I'm talking about. If I decide to buy a real console that's pretty much my own business right?

@Anubis
Well I'll see how pricy they are. Just seen an auction on fleabay and they can go pretty cheap (21€ so far and 1 hour left). Maybe one of my friends has one somewhere he's willing to sell

@Dizzy
Thanks for the offer mate I will think about it

Even PJ64 1.6 would play some of those. (I'm sure I played Paper Mario and Crus'n USA on 1.6) I remember playing Hydro Thunder with audio, but I can't remember what emu/version some time ago.

It's been long time since PJ64 folks released an update. I wouldn't call that committed to project. Did you know that JNes got update not long ago, while PJ64 didn't? (same author - Jabo)

As for N64, it is console worth having. You don't have many games to choose from like for PSX, but all of the games are playable and higher quality.

I am talking about the benefit of owning a real console over using the emu., not of your ability to configure PJ.

Our (once mine, in fact) N64, located in the living room, broke unexpectedly a few weeks ago and hasn't been replaced, despite the load of cartridges piling up in the shoes box.

It was used by young children so may be, if you're (the person willing to buy one) careful with it, it might be different.

EDIT : The console works all right

N64s and their games are going for peanuts around here. I know a electronic junk store that has a dozen of them piled up for $10 each with controllers and the games (mostly crap ones I'll admit) are $5 each. I'm glad I hung on to my N64 and even though I don't use it much, I don't think I'll ever sell it.

@TCD: You know you can get an adaptor to use a real N64 controller on a PC right? Having a proper controller makes emulating more bearable.

Please don't talk about things you don't know okay. I think I have configured my games pretty good (including Paper Mario ) and I also gave the reason why I want to buy the real deal (controller).

That's why I stressed out the importance of the RDBs (Rom DataBase) for PJ emulation. A RDB file rightfully updated and then *bingo* the game that wasn't playable becomes fully playable (found out about that almost in desperation, with Yoshi's Story being unplayable on 1964).

@TCD : May be I should try to get Madden NFL & Paper Mario working with PJ or 1964 on my Nvidia enhanced laptop. I'll let you know if I can shorten those two lists (not likely to happen before December, though).

It's been 3 years since they are working on 1.7.

RDB update is nothing without changes in plugins. We need more of those, the one that will support proper sky in rare games.

I was really happy when I found the info how to set the plugins to display the puzzle animation in Banjo & Kazooie right. I only hope they ever release the 1.7 version of PJ64 to the public...

Or buy a X-Box 360 controller, then you don't need an adapter. Should work fine on a PC.

Thanks for the info Retro I already have a PS2 analog controller thingy, but that didn't help much for Goldeneye So I guess maybe it's just me and not the controller

One more thing :
Apparently, it's a good idea to check if your graphic adapter is fully compliant with OpenGL v2.0 for a better N64 emulation (see some of the plugins requirements), my current Radeon GPU is only v1.2 compliant, not even mentioning Radeon chipset's lack of Glide libraries.

You're welcome, TCD.

I've got adaptors to use SNES, N64 and of course, Amiga joysticks on the PC. Some of the best money I've ever spent.
