So what's the next thread, Amiga vs. Atari ST again? :P
What about Amiga vs. SNES :P
No i think about amiga vs pcengine !
command guys just for fun.
incredible i comeback a day later and so much posts
i come now into the fight (for fun): batllesquadron megadrive, are you joking, listen the amiga music one, is really better. And for a so old chip (1985 first realease amiga 1000) it's a great achievement. Is it jay miner alone who did this gem ? (paula) my ears can't lie.
If yes, just for that a big respect for him .
And for many other things i have a big respect for jay miner
ps: i think they speak too much about bill gates and not enough about jay miner who was surely a true genius Thank you jay to gave us this gem, the amiga

Yeah! If it wasnt for Jay Glenn Miner none of us would be here today having this debate.
Beside, Bill Gates Windows 3.11 was just a lame copy of Workbench.

Perhaps i should make a thread workbench 3.1 vs windows 3.1 or prince vs jackson vs madonna
it will be a fight thread
Seriously, bill gates for me is not a genius, or if he's a genius it's in making money.

Its easy, Commodore fired key research personnel, even Jay was put aside by the company and at the end while they fought internal wars that desmembered the company, GFX "stole" amiga tecnology,Sony also used amiga tecnology for its consoles, while PC was growing in the market, when they finally got organized (software/hardware) and started to produce AmigaOne they were backstabed again by IBM that stopped supplying an essencial chip...Now you see...amiga is probably Irish, Irish stories always end bad!
With the current price and demand for PPC´s i dont know why they are not produced, even AmigaOne sould be produced on demand...

Great thread: In case anyone cares; FM Synthesis was done on the Amiga, at least for one app. that I know of... something by The Other Guys' software, who made the hideously expensive Sample Wrench. And as mentioned, it was quite processor intensive... I know it was way pre-AGA.

I was going to mention that the Amiga version of Aladdin has the theme song actually sung.... but it's probably just on the AGA version

that's why megadrive'games have better sound than the amiga games

bubba n stix is an example...on the amiga version you can choice between sound effects or music ..but on the megadrive version you can play with both

another examlple is the game Aladdin...the amiga version features sound effects+music but with audio-stoppage.....
No audio stoppage on the megadrive version of Aladdin
I don't know the technics of this stuff, all I know is Genesis/MD sound sucked balls. Amiga sound was easy on the ear.

Hehe, I think Akira will have an answer for this
Back in the days I had the MegaDrive, the 32X and the MegaCD. It was (and still is ) a really nice kit. Now only the MD is left , but it's still working . Like Zetr0 said I wouldn't part from either platform. Just a pity I sold the additional parts (32X and MCD) along with games for them

Amiga Zealot comes along and destroys the logic agreement to which everyoone had arrived, with more bold claims backed up on religious fandom.

I leave this thread to its ugly fate now.

Hey I want to buy into this one...

Amiga's grand capability really was in it's ability to have a bucketload of different games, especially flight sims (AGA Gunship, Thunder Hawks etc). It was the originality of the developers that set it apart.

How many different versions of 'Sonic the Hedgehog' did anyone really need? As many as the Marios LOL? Amiga = greatness. MD = Mediocre & Dull...

Only there is no music in game in the Amiga version.

There is in the SNES version.

I meant music, not 'beep-bip-bip-beep' The SNES at least has samples as sound effects. It's okay, but no match

And since both the MD aswell the SNES are missing the title music, I don't care too much about the clumsy, not fitting music ingame

Click on "DETAILS" link at the left for overview of all the conversions to other platforms.

So what is better? More colours, greater palette, more resolution, more channels, sampled sound, more fps, more animations? Each to their own - some games only use some of these extra features. And remember the early days of amiga games - usually only games made specifically for a platform use all its strengths (e.g. Defender of The Crown/Arctic Fox). [Ok, these were far more advanced but still did not use everything].

Personally (as the site author of the link I provided), I like the colour palette selection of the amiga version far better. Also, the intro is just great. Not seen the SNES/Megadrive version, but the sounds/music seem to be almost universally panned in comparison. Granted, the play speed of SNES/Megadrive is probably superior, if that's what makes the game for some - but I never really liked the game anyhow.

EDIT: 14dB SNR HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
