I have got that "I should sell up" feeling

Space at home has suddenly become very tight! My study has been turned into a kids playroom and my A1200T and A1200D are under pressure to be boxed.

I am very very very tempted to sell the lot.... I know I dont want to, but equally if they go in a box then it will be years before I get space to set them up again...

What to do!!!??

Set one up, box the other..

There is always room, and if you sell them you'll just feel guilty, and dirty

Give them to me!

Ok, joking...
...You know if you sell-up in a few months you're going to be spending good money trying to replace them - Probably at a thumping loss!

Space is never at that much of a premium - some creative thought required...
...in the meantime, box one of them as bippym suggests to show willing & if you don't miss it that's the one to out.

Keeping boxes for years without opening them, and hundreds of pounds of top end Amiga hardware... just because you can seems a waste of money and (more importantly to me) space.

I'm having exactly the same issues, space and money both being a problem at the moment and I have Amiga bits coming out of my arse!

Have a nice modded 1200 with 1230 MkIV and Subway USB, keep looking at that eBay shortcut in my browser...

Sad state of affairs

Right I am going to part out the A1200D.

First to go will be the the DCE flicker magic. It is an internal Scandoubler and Flickerfixer.
Also available is an Eyetech BMON video switcher (AGA/RTG)

Am going to list them on Amibay for 5 days, then ebay.

How big is the playroom? maybe you can put up a small cubicle for a desk and your amiga then let the kids have the remaining space? my daughter spent nearly 4 hours playing with a broken pen inside a moldy cavendish cardbox from a decade ago, they don't need that much to be happy

You should stick to the 1200D if space is an issue, makes no sense keeping an ugly big tower case.

That is very true... But parting with my my BPPC/060 tower that would be soooo hard!

There comes a time when you have to consider need before want. Towered Amiga isn't really any use today, unless you use it as a main machine. A desktop Amiga 1200 is all I need, with as little extra equipment as possible - apart from internal upgrades (like an accelerator card or a PCMCIA). It takes up very little space. I will always have at least one functional Amiga easily accessable, but I've had to calm down a bit with extras. I prefer to save my extra space for original Amiga games than extra hardware.

It can be tough on your nostalgia, but it's actually not too difficult to shrink your collections to a bare minimum - only keeping what you actually need and will use. Just don't sell off so much that you'll regret. Sell until you have the space you need... then when you need more space, sell some more.

Wise words Stareye, an A1200D would be the most sensible option...

So who is in the market for an A1200T PPC Monster?

Personally, i would keep both (or get rid of both). One would go in the cupboard as spare parts for the other as 1200s don't seem to be the most reliable of machines at their current age.

I'm in the market for the PPC bit... I could always store it for you...

Turn the A1200-T on the side to make a desktop? That would be the easiest way - or dependant upon your hardware you could put it in place next to your main PC and then use some kind of KVM for it (again if you have a scandoubler or another device cable of outputting to your monitor).

If you wanted a proper desktop then that's going to cost additional money which may be frowned upon by the Mrs!

I had the very same problem... Child number 2's imminent arrival last year meant I was losing my "office", or junk hole.

Solution? Look up, good sir... Strengthened ceiling joists, two veluxes, a load of boarding, plastering and shelving and I have a much, much larger junk hole...

The loft is now my domain

Funnily enough that's exactly what I'm thinking of doing next year. Have the loft converted then it will be my domain. No one will dare enter!

I heartily recommend it. A friend converted his a little while after and he's christened it the pr0n lopht... Mine contains only the stuff that Zetr0 and EVO car magazine enthusiasts would find arousing

Unfortunately my youngest son (18 months old) now sees ladders as a challenge and is adept at climbing them. Unfortunately descending isn't quite something he's mastered.

very funny we are all in the same situation.. i have a nice office with loads of pcs and my amigas set up but my wife is expecting in the winter and i will have to do something about all of it, but i always regretted selling my c128 when I was a kid, no way I'd ever part with my amigas.. you do have to make sacrifices for your children but we have the right to our own space and things we enjoy in life as well, it's a balance between the two

I'm lucky that myself and the wife don't want kids. So more space for me and my computers! Once the loft and workbenches are completed I'm literally having a row of computers (C64 / Amiga 1200 / 2000 and whatever else I can lay my hands on).

Can't wait but it will be about a year!

I find it funny how things as small as the Amiga & C64 in size, need to be sold up in order to make room for something else. In all honesty i think its just women trying to change us to the point of where we are no longer us, but somebody they are molding us into becoming, which has its good points and bad points.

In this case, its a "bad" point.

Sell it all and use WinUAE with your PC. Will give you more space, money, cheaper bills.. etc etc etc.

Cheaper bills? Just out of interest, on what basis are you making that statement?

Not on energy bills... An A1200 power supply is a 23W device. Running a decent PC that can emulate all that well is going to consume a little more than 23w

WinUAE is a great proposition for the Amiga, but to me there is something beautiful about old hardware - hence why I collect it .

We have to all stick together as males and stand firm against women! We will not give up our Amigas! I know my soon to be wife will continue to pursue the attempt to downsize my study so that it eventually fits into the corner of the living room behind the door! But she won't succeed. While we have two spare bedrooms in the house I do not see a need to have both occupied by unused beds!

As for converting a study into a kids play room! Why? Surely they can play in their bedrooms! I think parents deserve a play room more than the kids!

I'm basing that on the fact that probably every person today has a PC. You have Amigas+PC, remove Amiga and play Amiga on PC = cheaper electricity bills as only one computer instead of several is needed in each household.

Just saying it's cheaper to have a PC than a PC+more computers ... then it's more space etc again.

i totaly agree with all the above statements,
regarding women wanting what they want us to become, and telling us men what & where & when & how we must conform to there rules

what about what we want ?

they want us to get rid o`ve all our hobbies and other things that we like to do,so that they can dictate our live`s

talk about give and take

That's why I'm single... I hate women! ... love girls...... and I will never ever get married... 101% sure. I've learned from the best - Al Bundy.

But unlike alot of men, I won't succumb to womens orders... if they want me to do something and I don't feel like it.. I SAY so...

Good for you, there are not many smart people like us. Most people think about their appearence and falls for the "social images", that everyone should have a GF or they are afraid to be considered gay and stuff... and that everyone should be married etc.. lol.. not me .

I'm FREE! and I'm lovin' it.
