Ahhh, the business end of a Blizzard 1230 mkIV (If I'm not mistaken).

Brings back memories of building up my first A1200. Sniff.

For a Blizzard 1230/IV the crystal is not required.

@Lips2k8

indeed, as fc.studio states the card sets the speed of the FPU to the same frequency of the CPU on the Blizzard card itself.

If however you are intending for the card to go onto another *different board then you may require an Oscillator (crystal) of appropriate size and frequency for that board and FPU. ie. 50mhz

Amigakit sell them, serivce is second to none!

although you can get them on fleabay from time to time

oops. i should have paid more attention here, i'd like this for my blizzard too if the price is reasonable.

have many times considered the one from http://asb-computer.com but the euro->gbp exchange rate doesnt seem to be in my favour these days :/

FWIW:
50mhz 68882's are bloody hard to find...
...the good news is slower ones aren't (sold by Vesalia for instance)
AND all known 68882's will reliably overclock to 50mhz regardless of their rating without any extra help. (even the 25mhz ones)
This is very good for any A3000 owners stuck using the motherboard CPU+FPU combo. (Well, those with 68882) There's a hack to change the 25mhz clock to 50mhz - you never know, some people may be doing rendering on their unexpanded A3000.

This is NOT true of 68881's which are generally only as 'good' as their rating.

I may be mistaken, but apparently there are 20 units of that chip available here:
http://www.questcomp.com/InventoryPa...n=MC68882RC50A
and in this site this guys claim to be known manufacturers of this part...

Sorry Akira, I've not been paying attention:
25mhz->50mhz FPU?
Just plug the slower part into a socket expecting a faster one - done!!

A3000 FPU hack:
http://aminet.net/search?query=a3000+fpu

Hope that helps.

For 68882, if tried with a 68881 all the magic smoke will come out.

Hi Horace,
I couldn't get hold of a CPU box, so did the next best thing without it getting damaged.
We have millions at work but get sacked if we take the smallest of items although the anti-static bubble wrap found it's way out
What speed will you be running it at? I used to run it at 14mhz as I didn't have a crystal.
In hindsight it would of been a damn sight easier dropping it off.

You could buy MC68882RC50 for $1 from http://www.datamemorysystems.com/ until last week when someone bought all their stock

They still have 33MHz ones.

There is a rumour that they can get more but the price (supply & demand) will go to $15 which is still very reasonable.

But to me $15 is too much for a chip you will never ever use.

That whole thing seems a bit fishy to me...

I rekon they were inundated with over-seas orders and then googled a price check...

then frantically canceled the non shipped orders to make more money..

Expect 68882's going for stupid money on your local friendly fleaBay shortly.

@NovaCoder

I seriously doubt that it will damage your card, I believe at worse the FPU will just cease to function. and at $1 a pop, i can handle that loss... most 33mhz will happily clock at 50mhz but as with everything there is NO guarantee.

I am getting a few for some up-coming projects
