Taking the speed of Amiga's into consideration, I'd say a Sinclair C5 is more like it, not that a C5 is really a car, but you get my drift.

... the amiga is nothing like that car
.. thats more like a hi-end PC.. ie lots of power, but lots of wastage I'd say the Lotus Super Seven is more like the Amiga car, fast due to the fact that its optimized for the tracks! |

The Amiga would be a mid-class luxury model from around 1985.. Most of it's features were out of reach for normal car buying folk back then but have become commonplace in "prices starting with"-models nowadays. Also it's no longer anything special to drive, yet you get used to it very quickly and once you've driven it long enough, you like it a lot. It's a little worn down, the suspension isn't as stiff as when it was new and sometimes you hear a bit of knocking from some worn bushings when you drive over pot holes.
Ok, it doesn't have a GPS navigator integrated in the dash, but it did come with automatic climate control and a cruise control out of the box and back then it was much more powerful than your regular "family sedan". I'd say the Amiga is a 1985 Saab 9000 turbo, but that's not entirely fair to the Saab 9000.. There aren't any roads that are incompatible with the Saab, but there's plenty of websites that you can't really make full use of with an Amiga, also try opening a Word 2003 document with the Amiga with all features working.. Also when you try a new model, you get the feeling that ok, my old one can do most of this but this new one does a lot more and is much slicker and smoother. :-) Don't get your underwear in a knot over this, but that's just what I feel when I use the Amiga.. Also what I've come to accept when I drive my 1987 Saab 9000 turbo. :-D |

I tend to agree with Jope about the Saab
![]() But for me the Amiga is like a Mk2 Golf GTI. It's a bit old now but still great fun to drive and loved by enthusiasts all over the world. You can spend silly amounts of money on upgrades but it's never going to be a Veyron ![]() |

I like the Saab 900 turbo now thats a good car
![]() To me I guess the Amiga is like a Citroen BX, so god dam quirky, so ramed full of stuff nothing else had at the time, yet no one really understands what to do with it (I've owned 30 yes 30 Citroens and still going up), it takes a master to repair to it, a die hard to really appriciate it, and a crap load of cash to keep it ![]() |

Great, now we're headed towards the right direction with these car analogies.. :-D
Well maybe not the Skoda van, though. The Amiga doesn't deserve that. :-) |

Amiga will never die!
|
PCs are 10 ton SUVs that overheat when the airconditioning is turned on.
Macs are fancy sports cars that are all show and no go. Amigas are pedal-powered gyrocopters flying above a world full of traffic jams. They might not be practical or fancy, but they sure are a lot of fun. Last edited by Rebel-CD32; 25 October 2007 at 16:18. |

The point of my post wasn't to hate, but to point out how completely different and left-field Amigas are compared to anything else.

It would be like the Honda Legend Coupe of 1987. MUCH cheaper than the euro cars and yet better (87 BMW and Merc build quality is crap by comparison). Not many options, but craploads as standard. Not the fastest car, but so well built and everything works together so well. I swear, we had one in late 90s in great condition and no-one believed it was a 1987 model. But now it is finally outdated, similar to the amiga.

Probably something like a TVR S series
![]() Was a great car at the time, rather expensive too but it was well made and should still be running nowdays. Trouble is, it's a pain in the arse to drive nowdays, it's a lot slower than it used to be, needs a lot more maintenance and you can't find parts for it anymore. It's great to take for a spin to bring back the memories but using it for the weekly shopping is massive arse ache because it's just no longer practical any more. Oh and you still have people trying to tell you that despite all of these problems it's still better to drive than any of the modern day equivalents. Not because it's true but because they can't accept it ![]()
