Doesn't support old applications? Er, my A1/OS4 has, Photogenics 2, Wordworth 7, Turbo Calc 5.1, Draw Studio, IBrowse, Amirc (although I only use Wookiechat now) Amftp, etc installed on my Applications Drawer and they work fine and without a problem. (the only thing is that they all run a lot faster, terrible really)

Games wise, Freespace, WipeOut 2097, Heretic 2, Quake II etc all work fine on my miggy, and they are from my OS3.9 days. (Again, they run a lot faster)
For older stuff I have E-UAE installed.

What's the problem with OS4?

Nothing at all in my opinion...

...it's the circumstances (supported hardware and 'my lack of belief') that gives me a problem.

(Oh, and maybe a touch of gentle trolling)

Not long now I can't wait any longer :/
How many copies do they really expect to shift, considering the lack of hardware availible...

You can actually use an Amiga for lots of stuff not just for playing transfered ADF-files and braging about your 250+ games WHD partition.

From a technical point of view improving the hardware for the Amiga is interesting. A PPC card wont improve Shadow of the beast but SOTB was a crap game anyways, its just that you guys where 10 years old when you saw that game and wasnt so used to paralax scrolling so you thought it was the best game ewar. There is this operating system for Amiga called Workbench, its kinda good, you can do all kind of cool stuff in it and just like SOTB was a major seller for the Aimga, WB was too (although not many bought an A500 for the OS back in the day).

Now imagine SOTB being WB. What if you could buy a PPC card and get a SOTB in full 3D made in Unreal 3 engine. That is what is happening with WB right now, its remade to run on a faster CPU. now the CPU is not a Pentium, sadly its a PPC and its going to cost u a lot of money if you want to fly with the stars and join in on "club OS4" but for some people thats worth it and its a kind of enhanced experience of WB you had back in 1993 so in a way OS4 is also a way for you to remember WB from back in the day.
You are wasting your time. I have tried, and it is apparent to me that fanaticism, even in regard to something a pathetic as a crusty old computer, is immune to reason.
Move on and enjoy the best games ever on WinUAE, like I do!

I'm in shock they actually released it... but it's next to useless for most of us. No way am I spending 200+ on a 10 year old PPC card to make it run

Bring on some hardware

I'm happy it's been released, if a little surprised. (honest)
(that's why I had a 'plan b' for the count-down, shame I didn't get to do the minus-numbers )

I'm happy for Hyperion & for those who have hardware to run it. (honest)

But, d*mn, if OS4 users are frogs it's one hell of a small pond they are swimming in with little prospect of rain...
...what happens when the sun comes out..?
(or someone p*sses in the pond..? )

Hmmm, sensibly the thread's been split pre & post release - funny most of us are still posting in the 'pre-release' thread - does that say something..?

@Charlie

good work.... man after my own heart....

(hey come on its only one more post )

okay i will mention OS4 / Hyperion if it stops this post being deleted...

Is there any discussion over at hyperon to actually release this for CLASSIC amigas... you know ones that dont have Pointless Proprietary Chips in them ?

you know... it would best to linux on your miggy to be sincerely honest, that way you CAN have a modern (ish) OS (with Memory Management btw) and still keep all that yummmy legacy software

I would suggest an 040/060 minimum however....

Let's face it, OS 1.3 kicks 4.0's a$$ all day long

All hail the Speach tool which sounds like the voice from Wargames asking for a game of chess
