(Australia) The Annual Retrobrad Retro Games Convention

Wanted to let you Australian guys know about the The Annual Retrobrad Retro Games Convention being held in November in Ballarat, Victoria.

I will be going and I hope to see you guys there, details as follow:

It will be held in the Studio Theatre room at the University of Ballarat, Victoria (Australia)

seeing that it will be summer, i have made sure that we have a nice airconditioned room (so things dont get too hot and sweaty...)

heres a pic of the venue (sorry its the only one i have for now...)

so what can you expect???

LOADS OF NEAT RETRO ENTERTAINMENT!!! including..

:!: Tables upon tables setup with all your favourite retro systems and consoles (nintendo, sega, atari, colecovision, intellivision, commodore, amiga etc...)
:!: A range of Arcade cabinets (courtesy of my good friend grapes of gorf!!!)
:!: lucky door prizes
:!: Head to head competitions on the BIG SCREEN! (with prizes!)
:!: All your favourite music hits from the 70's 80's and 90's!!!
:!: All sorts of retro gaming information
:!: A buy, sell and swap supermarket (so make sure you bring some of your own games to swap with fellow collectors...)
:!: And loads more, basically its a whole day full of retro gaming goodness with fellow retro gaming fanatics!

So whats this event going to cost you???
It's only $20 per ticket! (which are limited...)

The tickets will cover the cost of the venue hire and whatever we have left over will be put back into prizes for you guys! (im not looking to make money for myself from this event, but rather just want the event itself to take place.)

So all that being said, tickets will be for sale by emailing me brad@retrobrad.com and i will also be listing a whole heap of them on ebay and on other retro gaming forums around the place.

tickets will be emailed and you will need to print them out and present it at the door on the day. each ticket will have its own unique code, and the name of the purchaser printed on it (so you will also need some id on the day) this is due to the fact that there are limited tickets (around the 50 mark) and also to prevent people trying to copy them etc...

alright, feel free to use this forum to discuss the upcoming event, and also if you have any suggestions about the event.

PS i will be finding out accomodation in the area this week too (for those that need to travel)

-brad

Cool stuff

If I was taking a trip back to Sydney to see the family around the same time I would pop in...

Unfortunately I cannot get time off from work

Isn't blade002 in Victoria somewhere? I'm sure he will be excited when he sees this thread

to be honest, i havent sold that many tickets! (have been on sale for about 2 weeks now)

but im hoping the word will get around and people will get interested

the venue i have hired is not huge, but it would be more than comfortable for around 50 people. Once the cost of the venue is covered, the rest of the money will be for all the prizes! so if i managed to get 50 people, that would make for some really great retro game prizes for the day.

I'd love to come, but I'm beyond broke at the moment. If things pick up soon, I'll see what I can do.

You guys need a Minimig at the event

And I am likely to be the *FIRST* in Australia to have one.

A clone of a A500, using a FPGA, unfortunatly I have found NO one selling a preassembled unit, partly due to people being cheap skates thinking they would get one for around 40 when the FPGA actually costs not far off that so unless you can find someone to populate a PCB for you or have it made, or maybe you can do it your self I would forget about it

You can buy the PCBs on eBay for about a 10 was they???

In that case, I *DEFINATELY* want to bring it along, that is, if Royal mail have delivered the PCB before then.

Sign me up. That makes THREE Melbournites. And surely, by November 17 I should have the bloody PCB's (And populated).

Infact.. I got 6 passenger seats in the minibus, but if needed, I will put the extra seats back in and make a group thing. That is an extra 5 I think (3 on the rear bench, and 2 on the seats Before that).

I know I read your comments about that
Your right to be mad though, I would be too, they may turn up soon, do you have the rest of the components ( that would make me real mad having the bits and no PCB!!!)

I "will" be there mihcael But damn i wish i had of bought that device for the C64 when i was in Germany. You know, the one that plugs into the back and allows you to slide in a memory card and transfer virtually EVERY C64 game ever onto the card!.

I was talking to Jen Schoenfeld about it in person at the time, and when i asked the price, he said 50 Euro. At the time, it seems like a lot and i "did not" buy it!!.... EEERRGGGhhhh... I am an idiot!.

And yep, WhiteB is bringing the Minimig !!
