With games that were designed to use a joypad (occasionally) - remember that Speedball 2 and The Chaos Engine were both released for the CD32.

lol @ Amiga CD32. When I think "Amiga", that PoS doesn't even come into my mind!

(When I think Amiga, I think A1000/A500/A2000/A1200/A3000/A4000. Mostly, I think A500 and A1200, since I was too young for A1000, too unknowledgeable for A2000, too poor for A3000, and later still too poor and unknowledgeable for A4000.)

As for SB2: BD and CE being released for CD32, again I laugh! What did those versions sport that the A500 version did not? Extra music and FMV, I presume? lol.

Edit: And probably AGA graphics, yes? No enhanced gameplay, I'll bet!

Is the "Mega Fire" pad a third party Sega pad, or the pad that came with the Megadrive? 'Cause, I've not tried anything that even comes close to the six button, even on Megadrive. The official three button that comes with the megadrive/genesis is much much worse than the six button.

I bought two of them for what was a shitload of money to me back in the days, mainly for SWOS. I still have both of them, and I've still to try anything that comes close to being that good. The pad is absolutely perfect.

sorry to sound rude, but in that case you are choosing ignorance... its as much of an Amiga as any other, and quite a useful one at that.

You need not apologise to me, Hungry Horace. The CD32 was nothing but an unsuccessful attempt by Commmodore to leech off a successful console market (just like the Atari Jaguar, lol.)

They attempted to replicate what SNES and Megadrive/Genesis achieved, and failed miserably. One year after the CD32 was released, Sega and Sony showed how to market a "CD console" (with the Saturn and Playstation, respectively).

Atari and Commodore essentially died because of that, at least games-wise.

But since you think the CD32 had a use, what do you mean by "use" exactly? You mean "use", as in "CDTV use"? lol.

It could, of course, be expanded and used like a "real" Amiga. That sounds like some sort of use to me. I'm not the CD32's biggest fan but it is still an Amiga at the end of the day.

Just because it wasn't a huge commercial success doesn't make it any less of an Amiga. It may be the black sheep of the family though (especially because so many console-fans from the SNES/NES era remembers only the Amiga CD32 - and weren't overly impressed, obviously - and not what the Amiga really was).

Excuse my cynicism, gentlemen. I don't doubt the CD32/CDTV were "Amigas" and had a "use" (however dubious).

maybe i got too annoyed at the time to answer this, but i cant be the only person who thought an A1200 with built in CD drive was useful, at a time when harddrives were way too expensive for most people?

i still think a cd32+sx-32 pro is as good as most A1200s - just completely unaffordable sadly.

I use both. When playing Amiga I use the joystick, when I play on consoles the joypad. Since I'm now playing Amiga most of the time it's choice 3 for me

Faster reaction on a Gamepad.
The only joystick that comes close is a japanese style arcade machine joystick.

But of course, having the right gamepad, and this means only ONE chance: the original, first batch of 6 button Sega megadrive joypads (very hard to get nowadays).
I wouldn't change mine for NOTHING.

Any 6 button megadrive pad is OK but the first batch has a special something that makes them my favorite gamepad ever. It's the best gamepad ever designed by man :P

Or perhaps it was designed by aliens?! 0_o

Try the right+down feet attack with a pad, sometimes you miss some smaller enemies or you hit them to late. Works perfect with the Competition Pro here.
No problem with Sony Dualshock-Controller which btw gives you 10 buttons to be configured (20 if you activate the analog sticks).

Fifteen years ago I used a "Competition Pro" to play. Today I use Sony DualShock-controller with WinUAE and I can control every game at least as good as with the stick (for games like Turrican or James Pond the X-button is configured as "up", of course) - and it's much more comfortable having all these additional buttons.

I tried pads with analogue sticks, it isn't exact enough, with spongy/soft controls. A Joystick with microswitches gives you a better response time/short ways, especially on a real Amiga. Analogue sticks are only awesome for 3D games.
