The Amiga OS is good enough to use instead of using Linux. The Amiga as we all know has a shell command, mulitasks, has web brower support.. etc. The only reason why i suppose i would want to try Linux on a real Amiga is to if it can be done and what speed.

I currently run Suse Linux 10.2 on a dual boot PC system, but i will always keep my Amiga doing Amiga things with Workbench.. I actually prefer Workbench over Linux, but i will never go to Windows.

Hehe well of course Amiga OS is good enough, but hackers seldom do anyting because it's necessary they do it because it's fun and challenging. I came across an effort to run uCLinux on an MMU-less Amiga 500 (more info) the kernel itself works but it was abandoned due to problems with developing under UAE. A bit of a shame really but it could be a nice little project for someone studying OS theory.

Ok, now I finally managed to download that Debian miniCD ISO-file.
I guess there surely was something wrong with the connection.

Cool. Tell us when you get it up and running. I might be tempted to do it myself later.

Let's don't forget Minix either. It will work on a base 500, or 68040 with HD support. Back in the day, early 1992, I dual booted my 3000 between AmigaOS and Minix. True it's only a text mode version of UNIX, but a least you can have some kind of UNIX on your Amiga.
