That also reminds me, the Blitz Basic version of Defender, and Witness (erm, a Defender clone) are pretty good efforts as well.

Here are some good ones not yet mentioned:

BoulderDäsh: ultimate Boulderdash for Amiga
Xenostar: excellent clone of 1982 arcade Sinistar (game not listed in HOL)
Babeanoid: Arkanoid-type game with amazing graphics (best AMOS game ever)
DawnVideoPoker: nice video poker game (by Babeanoid author)
WallyWare Solitaire: best (OCS/ECS) Amiga solitaire
Asteriods: clone of 1980 arcade Asteroids - 1987 version by Rico Mariani (not on Aminet or in HOL)
Mine Runner: Lode Runner clone (I prefer earlier 1.0 version, 1.8 is "too fancy")
Zerberk: OK clone of 1980 arcade Berzerk (main character looks suspiciously like Mine Runner guy)
Space Invaders: most accurate Amiga clone of arcade Space Invaders

How about Megaball? Didn't that start life as shareware? Spent a lot more time on that over the Arkanoid conversions.

Deluxe Galaga/Pacman, Scorched Tanks were outstanding.

Cybernetix, Super Foul Egg, Monters of Terror AGA, Roketz, Alien Bash II/Fish Finger were personal faves too.

Was gonna include the Wheelie remake & Paradox (Shove It!/Boxy Boy clone) too but just fired them up and they were Licenceware.

Quick Money was a great game, shame it was only 2 player, would be good to see some AI implemented and have a computer controlled opponent.

Bestest PD games on amiga?

One of my friends is obsessed with great PD games for Amiga... He seems to hate virtually all commercial stuff. (he is into quirky stuff like Omega Race)

What do you recommend PD wise?

Orc Attack was entertaining...
Zombie Apocalypse was good.

My fave has to be Jet Strike Jr.! The one that spawned the full-on Jetstrike. Coded in AMOS too!
