You mean the idea itself? Now that you mention it, I do *think* it wasn't such a good idea... too many people are afraid to select "adult"...

Um, ignore my comments... I couldn't see the names of the voters next to the options. Long story

mate, if I wanna play a card or board game, I'll play a REAL card or board game. Not an Amiga card or board game. Likewise, if I wanna play a quiz, I'll go on some dumb TV show. And if I wanna play an educational game, well, I'll err... play Chaos Engine! Yeah, they're just irrelevant genres. get rid of them!!!!!!!1!

Too general genres. My favorite is "skill" games, but involving some puzzles. Like Oxyd, Monkeyball, etc...

Oh, so because YOU don't like the genres they shouldn't be in the poll.

Look at Japan... they offer tons of Mahjong games (card). In the US it isn't unusual with quiz games and they sell really well (Buzz for the Playstation 2, to mention one). Educational would be the least commercial ones of the trio, but there's a market even for them.

I'm just kidding. It isn't up to me what goes in and what stays out. It's just a joke to me that card, board and quiz is there at all. I mean, back in the day people generally didn't buy Amigas for games which are more fun in their original tabletop forms. They bought them for the new interactivity offered, like slick shoot 'em ups, pixel-perfect platformers, involved RPGs, witty point-&-click adventures etc. To my mind they're the genres that matter, and I think most Amiga gamers would agree.

And as for the Japanese, we all know they're a twisted bunch who consider almost anything entertainment (seen their reality tv shows?). They have an essentially dehumanised society and the commercial success of silly phenomena like Pokemon is proof of their low standards. They have made some good games, but their games offer the player no real freedom and have an "on-rails" feeling, especially as regards code-of-conduct. And I don't think Amigas were even sold there, were they?

Anyway, if people's favourite genre is "card or board" (LOL!!!) all power to them, though I do think they're missing the point of what gaming on the Amiga was all about. I suspect any votes in those genres would be disingenuous and just done for laughs but if anyone truly believes card and board is THE Amiga game genre (LOL!!!), then please don't be insulted by my comments.

Gotcha.
Well now matey, what does the poll question say?

"What's YOUR favorite genre" = "Genre that YOU (the player) like (liked) to play".

Not "What is the genre that made tha Amiga what it was/is", nor "Amiga's best genre" not even "Games You must play!!! or else!!!"

See the difference?

Well to my mind "your favourite Amiga genre" is inseparable from "what you believe is the Amiga's best genre". Just like if I ask you what's you fave icecream flavour. If you answer "vanilla" then to you that's the best icecream flavour. See? I mean why would your fave be vanilla if you knew chocolate chip was the better flavour?

OK. Instead of extending this icecream analogy and just boring everyone (like I've no doubt already done), I'm just gonna say if you're fave Amiga game genre's card or board (LOL!!!) then GOOD FOR YOU, YOU OLD COOT!!!!!1!

To favour something and to think something is best is not the same thing. But I know what you want to have said. I actually said something similar in another "It's the..." thread...

Look at this way captainxod... voting for some of the genres can be just (?) a nostalgic experience that we all had when we were kids. That has (almost? ) nothing to do with "I play ONLY this type of genre and I play it ALL THE TIME" doesn't it?

Besides, one should not discuss about taste of others

Not that you have to have one favourite of course... the poll is multiple choice after all

Well, I never read the first post, I just assumed "hey, a poll, ok, I vote for my favorite genre (not genres)".
