UFO: Enemy Unknown -different Amiga versions

How many different AGA versions exist, expect for cd32 version ?
Is the Platinum edition similar to the original AGA version of the game ?
If not, how does it differ ?

Then, does the later A500 version of UFO differ much about the "original" Amiga version ..? :-)

What I want to know is what's the deal with the US version of UFO (X-Com: UFO Defense). Its MIA in the HOL: http://hol.abime.net/4820

Does it exist or doesn't it? If not then why is it in the HOL?

The notes say:

Quote:
US version of UFO: ENEMY UNKNOWN.
Features bug fixes that prevented completion of European version.
If the game doesn't exist (which is likely as it doesn't appear on planetemu.net or on the SPS website) then where the hell did they get this information from? Its all seems a bit suspicious to me.

If it did exist surely it would have reared its ugly maggot infested head by now!

Another thing that confuses me is the AGA version comes on only four disks whereas the crappy A500 version with dull dull dull graphics comes on a mighty five disks. For fecks sake! Whats that about?

Shit! My bloody head hurts now with all this UFO paranoia. Someone PLEASE answer these questions cos the've been bugging me for literally minutes now.

I'm pretty sure that version exists for the PC at least.

OCS version has loads of music so it takes an extra disk. AGA version has most music removed so it is smaller.

Both versions suck. I actually bought both versions when they first came out. I played them for 3 weeks solid. Then I went back to Total Chaos.

Maybe some hacker out there could hack the music of the A500 version back into the AGA version?

@GH
I used to run the ECS version on my a600, it wasn`t THAT slow, infact it was pretty good, albiet i did have 2mb chip and 2 mb pcmcia fast at the time.

The A1200 was pretty good for me, i felt it better than the PSX version.. admittedly it had combat screen music, so i burnt that over to CD (using make CD i believe ... ) and had that music playing while i was ... playing and then when the mission was over i would just pause the cdrom ... problem solved!

its wierd how the OCS version had mission music... wierd indeed. my thinking (before i check HOL) is that the AGA game was first and the rest refined - improved (as much as finacially possible)

But i have to state though the PSX version kept crashing if you were asaulting level 3 of a mothership... so much so to beat the game on the PSX you had to save it to memory card near enough every turn!

so is there 4 versions of UFO ?

OCS
ECS
AGA
CD32 (no keyboard support)

hmmm does anyone have the mods / music tracks from the A500 version of UFO ?

The PSX version was very slow as well, when it came to loading at least. The PC versions are the most playable.

I never played the PC version or any other version other than on the A1200, but even without these things that were on the PC, that didnt stop me from finishing it and loving the game all the way from start to finish. GREAT Game !!

Although on a bog standard A1200 it took towards the end of the game about 30 minutes for computer to calculate the moves the Aliens would make. At the start of the game the wait time was something like a few minutes, so i guess there was alot more information for it to play around with the further you got.

Once i got my 030 card though, the turns went from 30 minutes to something like 20 seconds !!!
