ac-1290.adz

I was cleaning up my downloads dir a while ago and this one (ac-1290.adz) was there, so I converted it back to an adf and the filesize was 923,648 (902k) - I assume I downloaded it from the zone, I can't remember, but did anyone else get this file and if so, did they have any problem reading it?

Ive got a few disks with this filesize.. I can only assume that the disk is an 81 track disk? Most amiga disks were 79 tracks but for some reason we always set x-copy to copy 81 tracks all the time..
Cant remember why now though..

Maybe you set it to that to make sure if you bumped into 81 track disks that you'd get the last tracks?

I'd like to know though how to read an 81 track disk into an ADF file though, that could come in handy if I were to bump into one.

But doesn't the usual methods for converting Amiga disks to adf files default to the standard 80-tracks?

I tried it (and probably still have that version somewhere...wasn't it called X-Copy 99?) I can't really remember the results...if my memory serves me right, that program was a virus. If you want it, I can upload it.

As for ac-1290.adz, my guess is that it's just an overdump.

@Twistin,
I believe the filesize of 923,648 (902k) represents a FFS formatted disk. I think I created a disk with FFS-DC and when I used Trackdisk-GUI to create an ADF file it came out to this size instead of the OFS 880K you would normally expect. I'll look at my 4k machine and try this out and see what happens.

@Twistin,
Nope that aint it, it has to be extended cylinders, out to 81. If you divide the actual count of 901120 by 80, this gives you 11264 per cylinder. Adding 2 extra cylinders and the normal value of 901120 gives you 923648.

I just love catching myself being wrong, shows I'm human after all :laugh

As a side note to the OFS vs. FFS formats, seems that the FFS is just more efficient in that the OFS only stores 488 bytes per sector, where as the FFS stores a full 512 bytes per! I had forgotten this little tidbit.
