The Heart wants me to say yes but The Head says no

Maybe if Sam440 was like 100 people would build AOS 4.1 systems and Amiga would live but at 500 odd no-one will

I don't see Amigas showing up in any form outside of a few low production money losing hobbyist kits.

Would be nice if somebody ported OS 4.x to old PPC Macs so I could buy more 68K amiga machines for cheap!

Actually I think the suggestion that OS4.1 is ported to generic PPC (i.e Macs) is about the only chance we'll see Amiga back... apart from Jens' Clone-A if he decides to go on with that.

I think it's way too late, i mean how could they ? I mean most people use either a pc or mac for their small (or larger) amount of work and well, lets face it we have 3 consoles to suit all the gaming needs where 2 of them are fairly cheap to get.
I did stumple on a clip about jens' clone-A the other night though and tbh I think he is on the right track, if a new amiga is needed, it will probly be something like that, a replica of the old one/ones for the hobbyist to tinker with and relive the old ways, be it coding, gaming or whatever makes people tik, yea that one sounds kinda cool and i could maybe finally make some room on that desk

I think that if everyone backed off and stopped flaming the guys on the NatAmi project and instead offered them some encouragement, it would be better for everyone concerned.

NatAmi is a brilliant concept. Give these guys a break and let them get on with it!

I wish it would come back but i honestly think the moment has long since gone.

Form what I remember as a kid Commodore have a lot to answer for. The A500 was a superb machine but then the 500+ came along that half the A500 games didn't work on it so who would want one? As the 500+ had just came out there were few games wrote for the 500+ and trillions still on the shelves for the A500 that wouldnt work. I mean, why as I kid would I want a computer (Amiga or not) that couldnt play Turrican, Lotus, Sensi etc etc. when I had all that with the stunning A500.

It wasn't until the A1200 came along and put commodore on the map again but it was a little too late as the PC/Mac was getting it right year in year out not wasting them with crap products.
The fantastic CD32 came along only to be loaded up with 2 year old A1200 ports I mean come on!! Commodore literally crucified the Amiga and its something I can never forgive them for.

Strong comments above ment in a very pro amiga way and I apologise if it offends anyone but this is how I remember it happening at the time. I love the Amiga and if it ever did come back and it could compete with the Mac or even Linux never mind PC Id be straight there with my cheque book out supporting them.

It really is a different world these days though.

Amiga needs a few things if it is to come back...

1) x86 compatibility (to run on common / cheap hardware)
2) A damn good browser (for obvious reasons)
3) WINE or equivalent (coz there are far too many Windoze only programs, and very few for AmigaOS

Erm, wouldn't it be easier to use WinUAE then?

Yup, a brilliant CONCEPT... but not very realistic or practical. It was a big mistake to let that idiot loose with the website offering "coming Summer 2008" which is a hostage to fortune.

It all sounds great but its for the dreamers. I really think Jens is the last hope for Classic Amiga and TBH AOS 4.1 is rather a forlorn hope. Maybe AOS for x86 would be a better move.
