Errr, no...

That ship has sailed. Too much time has passed since the originally conceived evolutions of the hardware were being considered (A3000T etc.) for a real Amiga to be resurrected in new hardware form and I'm not sure I even want a new evolution of the Amiga if it's just a new version of the OS running on PC/MAC clone type hardware.

In my opinion the hardware and software went hand in hand to make the Amiga what it was.

The thrill of the original machine is what counts and personally I've found emulation is what takes me closest to that...

I don't know why it bothers people if the Amiga makes a comeback or not (and let's face it, it never ever will).

For me: I use my Amiga. I spend money on it. I enjoy it. Who cares about anything else? If you enjoy using the Amiga (real, emulated or whatever) nothing else matters.

even IF the "amiga" could come back, what would it offer? eh? nothing. nothing at all. this is not 20 years ago, where computer hardware was at the beggining... OS4 u say? yeah right... no REAL progs, limited support, crappy conversions... no thanks.

Don't blame me i know that there is no chance
(or perhaps 1/1000000000000000000000000000)
but it could be so great and it could be a nightmare too it depends what will be done with the amiga name.

XD That joke never gets old

WinUAE emulating a high end amiga is the closest thing to a comeback I've ever seen. Before that It was all games for me.

Good to see so many people being realistic.

I'm still waiting for Clive Sinclair to make a new ZX Spectrum.

I strongly believe. BELIEVE

There´s no chance I´m afraid. I would buy brand new Amiga (500, 600, 1200) for price of brand new fastest PC. And I know there´s a lot crazy people like me. Doesn´t matter there´s a great WinUAE, doesn´t matter the use is much more comfortable than real Amiga, Amiga´s got soul, life, you can love it, touch it, smell it, you can call it Ami, Amiga, sweet Ami, you are together through high times low times, not like PC, it´s just kit. Exchange this, replace that, buy new sound card, new motherboard etc.
I BELIEVE

To the people who voted yes in this thread...

Did you actually answer whether you think the amiga really actually has a chance of a comeback or did you just tick yes because if everything changed and things were completely different you'd like Amiga to comeback?

And you realistically think they will?

I just can't see it ever happening.

Take the rose coloured glasses off, it's not ever going to happen, it's a bit like the second coming of Christ, people want it, but the answer is NO, which part don't you get, the N or the O?

There are those (like me) who fondly reemember the Miggy and I have just bought an A600 and an A1200, with some pimping mods in mind, like adding DVD/CD-RW, USB and such to bring them up to date a bit, but underneath it all, it was bloody 16-bit and we are now in the era of 64-bit computing, PC hardware is so cheap these days there is no market for another platform (unless you are a journalist where the Apple Mac rules).

If even Dell are going the Linux route as well as Vista to hedge their bet, can't you see there is no opening for a new OS? Look what happened to OS2/Warp....face it, Amiga was good at the time, but that was because there was competition between OS's like Atari's STOS, Amiga Workbench, MSX on various machines and early Windows on 086 and 286 PCs. Sinclair Spectrums and Amstrad machines had no GUI environment worth talking about, so they were the first casualties in the OS wars.

I am old skool enough (unfortunately) to have played with most of these systems over the years, so I think I have some idea of what I am talking about.

Get over it, the only thing left is the brand and massively expensive add-ons sold through specialist dealers for obsolete machines, that grey-heads like me like to tinker with.....

At least couple of Fred's farts and nothing else.

Amiga is long dead company. It died around the time when Jay Miner died.

Not sure what's worst: scanline or amiga inc. lovers.

@Merlin - did you call TOS a GUI??
