There is no need for this. Mame uses automatically rotated scanlines, WITH this created PNGs.

Yes, you are correct

Anyway, I've updated package to contain vertical scanlines as well as horizontal scanlines

... ClassicScanlines_Horizontal.png = 50% grey
... ClassicScanlines_Horizontal75.png = 37.5% grey
... ClassicScanlines_Horizontal50.png = 25% grey
... ClassicScanlines_Horizontal25.png = 12.5% grey
... ClassicScanlines_Vertical.png = 50% grey
... ClassicScanlines_Vertical75.png = 37.5% grey
... ClassicScanlines_Vertical50.png = 25% grey
... ClassicScanlines_Vertical25.png = 12.5% grey

Cheers for that Duke, very interesting

I haven't really been active on MAME World or MAME Testers forums for quite some years now...

I mean, I still check out ALL the MAME WIP threads like the following on a weekly basis:

... Aaron Giles Home Page
... AJG's Mameography
... Arbee's WIP Emporium
... Avoid Spikes
... Charles MacDonald's Home Page
... Haze's Mame WIP
... Kale's WIP Page
... Luca's MAME Drivers

... Reip's MAME WIP
... slanina
... smf's blog
... The Guru's ROM Dump News
... Tourniquet's MAME News
... VCMAME
... Ville's Development Log

Maybe I should get back into it

None of them are more right then the other, rather they emulate different screentypes. A modern progressive screen will look pretty much like any VGA screen.

going form the screenshots http://www.mameworld.info/ubbthreads...new=#Post92158
  • damiens very light scanlines and some filtering looks a bit like my old philips amiga monitor.
  • scanrez1, looks like a blackline 100hz TV, the triad of RGBs are not in an even line
  • gb3, reminds me a bit about my 15hz arcade screen.
However all of the filters decrease the colour intensity, and none of them have the colour bleeding that most old monitors have.

Use damines scanline filter, oversaturate the colours a bit, some bilinear filter, framelag and increase the gamma. It's never going to be perfect, but on my TFT screen it's as good as it's gonna get.

If you really wanna goold school you probably should add "insert coin" burn ins and some purple gradients due to bad degaussing on most screens in pizzerias and similar places, and some less sharpness in the corners. Theoretically a resolution at least twelve or four times the original screen where you draw the red, green and blue elements seperatly + interlace interpolation between them should be a great effect as well.

There was some talk about an automated tool to generate burn-in overlays. It would run MAME some time in non-throttled mode and record the areas which are most visible.

You're missing the point...

The image is good quality, not blocky like old games are so it doesn't need scanlines

Duke's / Ultron's picture is really the bomb and what I want to achieve

http://eab.abime.net/showpost.php?p=...&postcount=222

Anyway, that's enough on the subject for me

Yeah, he looks like some people just completely ignore the fact that we're talking old games with sub 320x256 resolutions who were played in Arcades, old Monitors and Television.

The vast majority of emulators have them for a reason, particularly the more serious as it pertains to historical archives.

I don't think anyone ever went to a Microsoft Windows Forum or Porn Website complain about the lack of scanlines or RGB triads or TV emulation, so the posting of those subjects is repeated straw-man, it's funny, but it's mere fallacious straw-man.

This shouldn't even be an issue since we're not discussing forcing people to do X or Y, we're discussing people having the choice to select X or Y. More choices is good, and that's why most choose to emulators have them.

Moreover, the funny pictures some people did over the thread are not how scanlines are made, at all, much less how RBG monitor apertures are.

Ah, but you're forgetting the large amounts of strip poker games and IFF pics that were distributed at the time as well.

Scanlines... blah.

Yeaaahhh DLFRSILVER for DamienD, "Scanlines Spartiates, we're dining
in blocky graphics hell t'night!!!"

Stop kidding guys! Blocky graphics = scanlines mode on. Period !

The amiga never went with blocky graphics. Scanlines is the default mode
on our games, and i don't understand why you prefer RAW gross graphics.

no scanlines is only good when recording movies for RAG.

ahhhh, stop the fuck loool !
