Goal! - update?

Since Mr.Larmer died long time ago I wonder if someone else might update Goal! The game it self is working as far as I can tell, but settings are not saved and you can't save replays. (nor you can load your own disks)

I wonder if someone can fix this and complete install.

Here is note from WHDLoad site:
Quote:
Load action replays not working correctly, because I wrong simulate
'disk changed'.

Use DIC program by hand to create files 'Disk.3' (disk with settings)
and 'Disk.4' (disk with action replays).

Thanks!!!

Well, I did my own hd-version of Goal! back in 1997 that supports all features. I did it using my own system, i.e. not WHD load though. Should be no problem to adapt it for WHDLoad though. I'll see if I can do it this weekend.

Unfortunately I was busy with other things this weekend (mainly testing the speed of a c2p routine ) thus I will need a few days more for the whd slave. Good thing is, I found my old source of my Goal! hd version so there shouldn't be much problems adapting it for WHD. I'll keep you informed.

Ok, update: I have adapted my old HD version for WHDload, everything works fine except loading directory of the Replays disk. I think I can give you something to test tomorrow. Was a nice experience touching such old code again.

Ok, small update, everything works so far except loading directory of the f*cking replay disk... I am debugging since 3 days to find the problem, it's some pretty weird problem... That the game was programmed in C doesn't make it any easier...

StingRays I wanted that also it is possible to be record the modified teams to be able to update the teams.

I will be able to try to update all teams, at least the national teams and the champions league teams!

I have several Goal! videos in Youtube:

Perhaps the following request is to request too much: can you duplicate to the double the nationals teams? I will be able to use the repeated ones for the national teams of other continents: Brazil, Argentina…

Goal! is one of my older favorite games ;-).
So, where would I get the most recent (whdload ?) hd version ?
Used to play it much with my friend years ago :-).
It was very fun, generally. Of course, with the more "distant" screen view.

Well, at the moment on my HD. I still have a hard time to find a workaround for that problem with loading the directory of the replay disk. If it wouldn't be one of my fav. games as well, I would have already given up. So be patient please, I hope to have better news soon.

FINALLY! Yesterday, more than 14 years after I made my first Goal! hard disk patch and almost 5 years after I adapted it for WHDLoad, I finally fixed the problem with the replay disk! YAY!

Spent two hours in front of ReSource starring at the code (again! as so often before...) and then, finally, I had an idea how to fix this problem. All replays can now be loaded correctly. Expect fully updated WHDLoad version in the next days. Yes, it took me a long time to solve this problem but now it's history! \o/ See attached screenshots.

Yes, I agree. Best football game on Amiga and one of my favorite games. Otherwise I would have given up loooong ago! Can't count the hours I spent trying to fix that problem... Disassembled C-code is truly a PITA to debug.

Goals can be saved, yes.

Yes, everything can be loaded/saved (teams, goals etc.) just like in the original disk version.

You can now test it since I have finished the slave. Please test attached slave and report any problems you may find. The patch supports 2 versions of Goal!, v1.0 (SPS 487) and v1.1 (SPS 1817). There is also a Championship Cup Edition version but I don't have it, thus it's not supported yet. If someone has an original of this version, I can easily support it too. The patch will create the data disk (disk.3) and replay disk (disk.4) if you don't already have any data disks installed. You can save your settings, leagues, cups and replays just like in the original game. Have fun!

Edit: Almost forgot, the slave supports the following tooltypes:
CUSTOM1=1: disables the intro
CUSTOM2=1: disables creation of data disks (you normally won't need this since the slave checks if data disks exist or not)
Attached Files
File Type: lha Goal_WHD_BETA.lha (5.0 KB, 48 views)

Just use the installer of the already existing patch. Then just copy the slave I attached here into the directory of your Goal! install.

Edit: Preinstalled version attached!

Thanks. However, that is v1.1 (SPS 1817) which I already support. HOL lists a separate Championship Cup version which apparently is rare.
