The mechanisms from these two sticks are still sold today as arcade controls by Suzo/Happ which explains why they were so reliable.

Favourite: Suzo Arcade (aka "The Arcade")

Favourite but never owned personally: Star Cursor

Hmm... I´ll say it like this:

As a kid my favourite joystick was a Competition Pro Mini.
Now its the Competition Pro.

Controllers are another story, only talking about joystick´s now.

This is Albatros, my favourite joystick. I own 2 of them and they work perfectly since 1990. Great.

I personally think all computer joysticks are crap.. You can't beat buying some wood, a proper arcade joystick and some buttons and making a quality arcade controller.

Well since most Amiga games don't support more than 1 button, its kind of useless anyway to have an arcade stick, but yes i love arcade sticks much more than Joysticks, but i wouldn't go as far as to say that they are crap!?. I had 10 times more enjoyment from playing games on my Amiga & C64 than going to the arcades in the 80's and 90's ( although i did go to them a lot, but after about 1993, arcades started to become shit, and now they are pathetic!! ), so i don't entirely agree, but each to their own.

I used to have that joystick too, Blade. It was okay, pretty comfortable to use but I found it a touch sensitive at times.

personally i dont like arcade sticks. too big, clunky and damn ugly to boot..

give me something smaller and nimble like a PSX pad for my delicate artist's hands anyday

@ Blade - whilst i understand what you are saying about the 1 button thing, it is my dream that one day every keyboard-using game will have a WHDload slave to add CD32 button support!! there's nothing i hate more than having to use a keyboard to play a joystick/pad game.

I can't really argue with that one... i used to use my toes years ago to change/choose weapons on the space bar and there was nothing more annoying than dropping the joystick in my lap for a second and find other keys i needed to press in a hurry!.. GRrrrrrr!!...

Yeah it can be a tad bit sensitive, but after years and years of usage, i have found it to be a gem!

Maybe where you live..

Horace: Pads aren't bad for some games, they are completely useless for others. For example fighters & shoot em ups generally aren't great on a pad.

I'm curious.. if you can name me a decent arcade without a bunch of technically impressive but shit games, then i will be there!!
