WHDLoad 16.7 Released

WHDLoad has been updated

*** 16.7 (18.11.2006)
- fix: the Snoop check for custom.bplpt's against BaseMem bounds was broken on word writes on the 68030 (DJMike)
- fix: resload_LoadFile and resload_LoadFileDecrunch has silently not loaded data without PreLoad, bug introduced in v16.6 (Bored Seal/Psygore)
- new: option NoResInt/S add, which disables any interrupts during execution of resload functions
- chg: if the Slave requires AGA and that is not yet enabled in graphics.library WHDLoad calls SetChipRev to enable it, this obsoletes the execution of SetPatch prior to WHDLoad
- new: WHDLoadCD32 a special WHDLoad version to be used on the CD≥≤, check documentation for more info
- chg: registration fee in USD adapted due currency differences, EUR and GBP unchanged
- chg: various enhancements on the install template

Get it at www.whdload.de.

Another, often overlooked, benefit of registering WHDLoad is that many patches include features that are only available to registered users. For example, in my patches I disable trainers for unregistered users as a minimum (and I'm open to creative suggestions as to what else to disable ).

So get registerin' !

Remove highscore saving and save game support

Maybe make the games into demo's.. Play 1 or 2 levels then quit or back to title screen etc?

If they use demo of WHDLoad they play demo of game

thats harsh man.... only highscore saving/ save game support / trainers etc removed is enough.

whdload is an essential package that any amiga owner should purchase anyways for Moonstone WHDLOad install alone :-)

Not really harsh, if one is using the demo version of WHDLoad why not make the user play demo games etc etc.

It is one of the very very few pieces of software that is still in development and as such all users should register imo!

Moonstone requires one to be registered anyway!

Oh yeah, I forgot about those I usually do this too.

You could change all their high score entries' names into "UNREGISTERED" too, I guess

I see what you're getting at, but it does feel a little harsh to me too. I personally feel the user should get the full game, but any "bonus features" added by the patch are only for those who support the project.

FWIW, I think WHDLoad also has a function so you can have the slave auto quit after a specified time period. Perhaps that's a little less evil as the user does have the full game, but only for 10 minutes at a time I must look into that...

I guess you have to consider the extra effort of coding these restrictions, but it's fun to think up new ways to be evil, isn't it

Truly harsh would be to have a surprise message pop up at the final level (or whatever) telling the user to register to continue past this point

I suppose the time feature should be investigated.

Another alternative is to remove 2nd player options in 2 player games, also any editing a game allows could be removed (EOB for example could have pre-defined party in non-reg version, completely bypassing the char creation screen)

Also maybe reduce energy and lives in games so the player has to be ELITE to play and complete

i think the timeout option is a good idea

even though you have the original game`s to play from floppy`s,
you would have to registar WHDload to be able to play the game`s from your hard drive,
after all said and done you are helping to pay for something that you/we would not normaly have? if those people did not think of the idea in the first place.
and not to mention the support you get aswell.

there still are a few thousand of us out there so support the next best thing to sliced bread

Soon as this kinda crap starts being adding, bugs will occur and then the people who have registered may get the quit screens.... ... bleh...

Actually, one of the reasons I registered myself was the long splashscreen wait, maybe this should be extended for unregistered users? ... well this and I wanted to play Moonstone ;-)

I think WHDLoad is fine at the moment, but I do agree if some patchers want to add restrictions as it's their work after all :-)

Most people who like the Amiga are at least in their 20s now anyway so £15 shouldn't make that much of a dent in their pockets. :-)

So.. anyone not registered (or refuses to register) just shut up and register it
