Shadow of the Beast - Pc Engine Cd-rom

Just wanted to drop a note: There's a Shadow of the Beast cd-rom version for the pc engine/turbo grafx cd! It has cd audio re-mixes of the original tunes and slightly better animations. Tried it out on MagicEngine...

...sounds pretty darn good.

(had to install the adaptec/roxio aspi cd drivers to make it work though )

There are FM Towns versions of Beast + Beast II which also have CD audio re-mixes and better animations (see HOL - Conversions for screenshots).

These are pretty rare, I'm very lucky that one of my friends has the original CDs and made me images

I have it. The game is a freaky shooter, and as usual, is pretty damn good, since PC Engine was excellent for shooters.

KONIX MULTISYSTEM

16 bit system developed by Konix, an English company that makes game controllers and various other add-ons for computers and game consoles. Was supposedly a pretty powerful system. I assume from the built in racing wheel that there was a large emphasis on racing games.

Interesting to note was that this system was supposed to come standard with a 3.5" floppy drive, which of course would have made copying and pirating games a snap. About 4 games were completed, among them a (what else) racing game and Shadow of the Beast.

This one was shown at E3 with at least one completed driving game. This system was based on Konix's Flare one computer, which eventually lead to the Flare 2 that became intergrated into Atari's Jaguar game console.

Name:

Konix Multisystem

Company:

Konix

Year:

1991

(Unreleased)

Games:

4 in development

Specs:

CPU:

16bit 8086 processor

Co-Processor:

ASIC processor (runs at 12MHz)

RAM:

256k

Colors:

4096 colour palette

Resolutions:

256x200 (256 colours)

512x200 (16 colours)

256x200 (16 colours)

Sound:

Custom DSP

Stereo sound

Storage:

Custom 880k 3.5" disk drive

Misc:

Cartridge expansion slot

Anyone ever found screenshot(s) of this version of Shadow of the Beast (or more info)?

The Cho Aniki ("Super Big Brother") series was released on tons of platforms in multiple incarnations. It's not rare at all. Versions of it have been released for systems up to and including the PS2.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cho_Aniki

The gag of it comes from the Japanese cultural view that wanting huge muscles is an incredibly silly and extremely homoerotic pursuit. Bodybuilding is not popular in Japan. The game basically makes fun of bodybuilders and their obsession with protein and excessively masculine bodies (with the insinuation that they do this as an expression of their inner homosexuality).

(Note that in Japanese cinema and pop culture, attractive men are usually very lean and fit, and often athletic, but not overly muscular.)
