That is a very true statement.

I think it was content that made the Amiga, sure there was advertising but how much was there compared to what Apple and X86 clones were doing flooding the media?

Commodore had the luck of selling millions of C64's and quite a few people just naturaly chose the Amiga when it was upgrade time (like apple users jumped from the Apple II to the Mac). I think people stick to a brand untill you screw them over or some major changes develope in the field that leave the old brand in the dust.

Nah, you clearly have no propensity to insult people whatsoever.

If you insist on leading with your chin, you shouldn't be surprised when somebody clips you on it.

As for 'holier than thou' attitudes, what are we to make of your mindless chest-beating about overcoming all manner of adversity at the tender age of 26 (bound to impress those who survived Nazi death camps as teenagers), and your 60 hour work week (whoah!) while studying for a certificate in mung beans and reiki?

If you think it was all down to content, you clearly don't understand retail channel dynamics.

If product quality was all it took, the Amiga would have dominated home computing in the 1990s, Beta would have reigned supreme, DAT would have killed off competitors, plasma never would have stood a chance against LCD, and everyone would drive Mercedes or BMW - no Ford, GMV or Mitsubishi would ever have been sold.

C= advertised the hell out of the machine - particularly in the specialist press, and they gained a hell of a lof of favourable editorial.

Mass media advertising was via all media in Australia, the UK, US, NZ, etc. A lot of people think that because THEY don't remember seeing an ad, it never took place. Wrong.

Today that is even more essential to build a brand via IT retail channels. All the content in the world won't get you over the line.

If you think it will, where are the Atari Jaguar, 3DO.....?

He with the best marketing strategy and execution will win - every single time.

I live in NYC, marketing capital of the world. I can honestly tell you, Amiga was not pushed here in any correct way. Ask a typical American what the C=64 was, and far, far more of them will answer correctly than if you posed the same question about the Amiga. The Amiga (and Atari ST) were European computers, in popularity, really.

I don't care about new Amigas but if the plan also includes freely available Kickstart ROMs (at least the early ones)...

Yeah, I never liked adobe premiere either. I use Mediastudio Pro.

I also though MainActor was more enjoyable to use than premiere.

Toaster ?

Totally out of my financial reach and the fact it was NTSC only back in the day guarenteed I didn't even scope it into a possible purchase.

As far as getting NLE on a new Amiga... MainConcept started off as an Amiga company, they do a linux version of MainActor. I would hazard a guess they might be willing to cooperate on a port.

Yeah ive been in a few scraps, but due to your attitude, its clear that you havent. youve been leading from your chin from the very beginning. I mean seriously, if you said what you said at the start of all this with your initial post towards anyone in person, do you honestly think that what you said is not a comment to provoke violent reaction?

You had clear intent of wishing to cause a reaction and trouble.

You asked me what adversity i had faced, i gave you an answer that i thought was applicable!!.. i didnt just suddenly jump out and say " oh ive faced all this adversity ".. you "asked" the question!??. LOL. And you still havent answered even half of mine!. Please tell me!.. what is it that you do?.. what have you faced?.. ive answered, now you can!. What made you so important to ask that kind of question to begin with? and what was the point of the question anyway?

Yeah im 32 years old, im sorry i wasnt around during WWII to face the holocaust... what a stupid analogy!?!?!?. You have now resorted to comparing me to a holocaust victim?. Mate getting back to 2006 and within the reality of my generational time frame,.. I would LOVE to see you doing what im doing right now.... You think its that easy do you!... Try doing BioChemistry in 6 months whilst doing 3 other subjects part time!!... I dare you!.. go on!.. buy a book on BioChemistry, and find out how much of that book i need to learn whilst doing everything else.. and then work the 10 hours a day, and see how far you get with this semester or even any of them! full time study is easier.. part time is not.

As for what happened 6 years ago.. I wont even go there, your immaturity wouldnt be able to understand it, but im not, nor did i ever seek pity at the time.. Just had to refocus everything.

And im not saying ive faced more adversity than anyone on this planet!. I just answered your question. Simple really isnt it!.

Again you ASKED the question!.

And no its not a certificate course, its an Advanced Diploma, and its a Degree level course ( i already told you this ). And its has nothing to do with mung beans or reiki... although it does cover a high level of nutrition information, and has more do with preventing the problems before they happen with people.

Your an extremely draining person.

You didnt say much here Boo Boo, but what you said was more than true!.

Ive had it with keeping this debate between Shillard & myself going. I know i said that before earlier on in this thread, but now ive truly had enough. Its leading nowhere but to the closure of this thread, and thats not what i want to see.

Thanks.

What would make developers and home users buy into a "new amiga"?

Well what made people buy into XBox when it first came out? It was heralded initially as going to be the biggest waste of time and no-way could it compete with the likes of Nintendo and Sega!

Whats the story now? XBox 360 is still selling like hotcakes while Sony's third machine, the PS3, well the world is lying in wait for it, knowing its going to blow their socks off. All for an intergrated games console!

Where's Sega and Nintendo? Well, Nintendo is quacking away with its beak going in the sidelines, mumbling something about a new Nintendo... does the world care? Sega... well... they've messed up so badly with their bollox dreamcast and saturn they had no choice but to go back into the coin-op market.

Every species can smell its own death. Amiga has been decomposing for a long time! But I do think with the right system and marketting, a lot could happen! After all, all we need is something to rival the PS3 and XBox 360! Who really gives a shit whether it has an Amiga logo or not!

IMO, If Discreet want to do something with the brand, all power to em! I'm not going to buy any old cack they put out, but if they put out something that I like, sure why not. If they don't, then fine I won't! That simple!
