Floppy disk Look what Santa brought us!

300+ dusty, scratched, peeling Amiga disks. Grabbing a random handful from the box, I discover:

Dungeon Master (original)
Gee Bee Air Rally (original)
Roadwar Europa
Space Quest
Major Motion
Roadwar 2000
Karate Kid Part 2 (original)
Arkanoid (original)
Rising Sun reel 2
Dungeon Master Hints
Star Control disk 2 (original)
Autoduel (original)
Q-Ball (original)
Shanghai (original)
Gold of the Americas (original)
Leatherneck (original)
Paladin (original)
Emperor of the Mines (original)
Globulus (original)
Global Commander (original)

These disks have been in storage a long time. They are very dusty. I'd guess that nearly 1/3 are original disks.

Can anyone recommend how I should dump the originals? I know that DISK2FDI probably won't work. I'm going to try dumping some of the warez disks using DISK2FDI tonight to see if the disks are still working.

I already dumped the original from the Power Hits compilation version with D2F, so that one should work

Maybe I can simply dump the copy-protected games using DISK2FDI, then load up LockPick or Maurader II in WinUAE and see if it can't remove/replicate the copy protection. I managed to do that with an original of Thexder. First I made an ADF which did not load in WinUAE, then I ran Lock Pick on that copy, and sure enough the game worked!

Ermm... but you can't dump copy-protected games with D2F, so you won't even be able to load them up with those programs. Or how did you get Thexder working?

D2F always claimed that it could dump any copy protected games.

D2F dumps some copy-protected games, but it doesn't dump the copy protection. Last night I dumped Foundations Waste original, and D2F reported a couple of non-standard tracks. I booted the ADF and the game scrolled a message, "Pirated Copy" and played a sound of Vincent Price laughing(!). However, I loaded up ProjectD in WinUAE and ran the Foundations Waste copy-protection removal on the ADF, and presto! it worked! Just like Thexder!

Also, there was a copy of The Halley Project which also dumped with a couple of non-standard tracks. The ADF would only boot up to the credits, then it went black. I suspected this was not a corrupt ADF, just the copy protection code. I discovered a Halley Project crack on Maverick Amiga v5.0 and ran it on the ADF. Presto! It worked!

I haven't tried dumping completely non-standard disks because it just takes too long. I suppose I could try it and see if the same process works using ProjectD or Maverick.

I would like to get a warp of Leathernecks if possible.

MFMWarp should work on it.

Send email to GLDFLD@AOL.COM and maybe we can produce an install for WHDLoad.

Unforunately, I discovered last night that my ancient Amiga 1000 's disk drive no longer works. I need to buy a used Amiga 500 system, or maybe an Amiga with a hard drive.

In the meantime, maybe someone can point me to information on the best method for dumping copy-protected originals on the Amiga. I already tried contacting CAPS a while back, but they never replied.

Here's a listing of the original disks (minus some apps) that came in this box. Believe it or not, there was not one warez disk in the box. Even the hand-labeled disks, which aren't listed here, had no cracktros, no nothing:

4X4 Off-Road Racing
Aargh!

Archipelagos
Arkanoid
Autoduel

Whahey!
Codetapper will "like" to hear that "very much", well I'm certain
Uhm ... could you please upload those original ADFs of Thexder and Halley Project? They could also be useful for the floppy code wizards reading this forum
