There is a fix for this posted somewhere else on the forums.
The "problem" is in your CF adapter. You can fix it. |

Ta for that. Am I to assume that this is purely a cosmetic issue? Or if I don't fix it, is there is a technical problem that is getting ready to bite me in the bum sometime later on?

It's cosmetic, the system works fine! Only that you don't get a reading of access (except on the in built LED of the adapter).
Did you find the corresponding thread yet? |

EVERYBODY READ CAREFULLY WHAT HAPPENED TO ME!
I plugged my CF into the pc, to boot under WinUAE. as usual. I switched the infernal machine on and I went to do something else, as usual, while it was booting. The damn thing saw the CF was not correctly formatted and automatically launched FDISK! NOOOOOOO! now the first partition of the CF (the BOOT one) if fucked (no DOS disk ) while the others seems to be ok....BE WARNED! FDISK STARTS AUTOMATICALLY WHEN YOU BOOT WINDOWS IF YOU DONT SAY "NO" WITHIN A TIME! ...so now...anyone can suggest me a program to (try to...sigh!) resue my lost boot partition? please help me! ![]() |

If you know exactly the parameters which were used originally to create the partition, you should be able to recover it using FDISK by just creating the partition again. All that has happened is that the partition entry has been deleted from the partition table. Put it back and all your data should still be there! ![]() Quote:
Of course it will work! That is exactly the type of drive these machines were designed to accept. ![]() |

Thanx a lot prowler! I already managed to fix the disaster with Disksalv! I was nearly heartbreaking!
Now the CF doesn't show anymore the strange files when inserted in a PC, but only the Fdisk logfile... LUCKY ME THIS TIME! |

For the command Work:SFSFormat to mean anything, the program SFSFormat must be in the current folder of the disk labelled Work. If it isn't the command just won't do anything, and this is probably what's causing the failed returncode 10. Other than this point, I can't see anything wrong with what you are trying to do. |

The SFSFormat file should have been included in the SFS.lha archive you unpacked.
When you find it, place it in the current folder or the root of the disk labelled Work. Then enter the command SFSFormat DRIVE DH0: NAME Disk0, where disk0 is the label for the disk (change this label to anything you like). This will format the first partition. And then enter the command SFSFormat DRIVE DH1: NAME Disk1, where disk1 is the label for the disk (change this label to anything you like). This will format the second partition. The present descriptor NDOS, associated with DH0: and DH1: indicates that these disks are Non-DOS disks, i.e., they haven't yet been formatted. Last edited by prowler; 08 February 2009 at 03:20. |

Good morning Tosk,
Now that I've had some sleep and I can think clearly, I have some more questions for you before we can proceed with this. (1) Which SFS archive did you download? It should be either the one from Aminet (SFS.lha), or the later version (SFS_1.279_68k.lha) from http://strohmayer.org/sfs/ When we have the answer to this, we will know what the correct entries for editing the "DosType: 0×53465300 Version: 1 Revision 270" are. (2) In your screenshot (screenshots are always very useful in these circumstances), what is the disk drive DH2? Have you created the PC folder Work, also given it the volume name Work and assigned it to DH2: in WinUAE? It looks like you've assigned it the volume name DH2 instead. It doesn't matter if this is what you've done, but it will make a difference to the command line syntax necessary when you come to format the CF card partitions later. (3) The Windows directory Work is where you should have unpacked the archive containing the SFS files. Did you manage to do this? If you are not sure what program to use to unpack this archive, WinRAR will do the trick very nicely! Stick with it, and we'll get there in the end! prowler |

Hi Tosk,
I'm glad to hear you got the formatting sorted out. ![]() I have attached the Installer program for you below. Just unzip it and copy it into the C folder of your Amiga boot drive. prowler |

However, I assume that it is done with an Installer script which you should find with the WHDLoad application, and it is this script which the Installer program I attached above will process. As long as you have copied this to the C folder of your boot disk it will be available just like any other command. If you can't figure it out, then you'll have to put a more general request for help in the thread. Good luck, prowler |

If the version 44.10 of the installer doesn't work for you, then use the version 43.3 file instead. Just rename it to 'Installer' and overwrite the Installer file in your System/C folder. Then proceed with installing WHDLoad. ![]() prowler |

That's what i do to make the Compact flash on IDE work good... :
Use HDToolBox, do a "read" to find the compact flash memory size then save. Go to the partitionning options, clic on "Change" (file system) Here you can see : 0xfffff You have to replace the 2 first f with 01 looks like that : 0x01fff SAVE CHANGES... Now you just have to boot the Amiga with WB 3.1 (for exemple) and format your new partition. Now you can install yourWorkbench, WHDLoad and games...... All good, without errors disk access....! SORRY I DON'T SPEAK ENGLISH VERY WELL... I'M FRENCH ![]()

All modern CF/SD/etc cards are (much) faster than Amiga built-in PIO0 IDE

I understand that. When I tested transfer rates in A1200 with my 4GB CF and 40GB 2.5" HDD I got 1.4MB/s read with CF and 2.1MB/s read with HDD. CF card in PC card reader gets around 6MB/s read. Why is then so slow in Amiga? I expected around as fast as HDD.
Theoretical limit for PIO 0 is 3.3MB/s. So real world performance would maxed out at around 2MB/s @Kipper2k: is that Transcend 8GB 133X really working correctly as I got info that it doesn't work with Amiga!? |
