It's been a long time a game really impressed me on several aspects, I can't even remember which game did that to me for the last time..could be Ultima Underworld but that's a rough guess but since I decided to buy me a 360 with Fallout 3 this christmas I'm happy like a little manchild

It's awesome, after Fallout 1 and 2 lot's of people expected it could only become a disapointment but it's really something special. It's much more then Oblivion with guns really, most biggest differences are there is no crappy level scaling and the story is well thought out instead of the generic elf and dwarf, good/evil crap from Oblivion.

I was impressed with Jet Pilot - how could it be so slow with a 060 card...

Some games that really impressed me graphically were -

Last Ninja on the C64 (I loved the isometric view and the lush backdrops)

Nebulus, C64 (that rotating tower looked really cool)

Ducktales, Amiga (because it was the first Amiga game I ever saw, had only seen C64 graphics before then.. and those still images while it was loading really impressed me)

Shadow of the Beast 2, Amiga (the nice animation, great scrolling, very cool design)

Another World, Amiga (awesome animation, very interesting backdrops)

Monkey Island, Amiga (loved the backgrounds, character closeups etc)

Wolfenstein 3D, PC (first FPS game I saw, was really impressed with the 3D world there, thought it looked fantastic)

Doom, PC (blew me away)

Space Quest IV, PC (first 256 color Sierra adventure game I played and the graphics really blew me away.. first 256 color game I ever saw too. I still think the graphics in the old 256 color Sierra adventure games are really good!)

Quake, PC (first polygonal FPS game I ever saw.. all the games I'd played up until then had sprites as enemies... and when I first saw it using 3dfx, that blew me away even more)

Far Cry, PC (In my opinion, this was the best looking of the big FPS releases back then, including Doom 3 and Half Life 2. Loved the very nice looking and huge maps)

Resident Evil Remake, GC (very nice 2D backgrounds with awesome lighting effects and good models too. This game still looks gorgeous).

ditto, I actually dispise 3D games (apart from F-19) I'm not sure why but I just don't get on with them!

Give me a 2D platformer anyday of the year...

2D wow games for me...

Shadow of the Beast II
Another World
Arabian Nights
F-19 (3-D)
Super Stardust
Pinball Illusions (especially in high res)

There are more Amiga Demo's that have amazed me if I'm honest than current available 3D games.

For what can be run on so little back then compared to today's standards I find is incredible... especially Desert Dream demo on the C64.

Too many to list, but anyways these are some that have shocked me:

Shadow of the Beast (how I wanted an Amiga when I first saw it )
Speedball ii
UFO (repetitive as hell, but absolutely perfect tactics game. Still play it sometimes)
Elvira I (ahh the atmosphere, the graphics, the puzzles...)
Space Hulk
Another World (the animation in its time was astounding)
Dreamweb (another brilliant adventure with atmosphere and great "adult" -no, not pr0n- ending)
Wolfenstein 3D (PC)
Ultima 7 & Serpent Isle (PC, the best RPG's I've ever played)
Syndicate (PC, haven't played it on Amiga)
4D Sports Boxing/Driving
Tie Fighter (PC)
Dynablaster !!
Abadia del Crimen (spectrum)
Wings of Fury
Moonstone
Master of Orion (PC)
Heroes of Might & Magic III (PC)

Console:
Castlevania: Symphony of the night (PSX - awesome 2D scroller)
Final Fantasy Tactics (PSX - great tactics game, awesome "adult" -still not pr0n- ending)
Silent Hill (had to search an explanation of the story online to understand it )
Streets of rage I & II (Megadrive - the music!)

For me it was...

Thief 2 (pc) - the story, presentation and even voice acting totally wowed me. The graphics style is the coolest I have ever seen in a game. And of course the use of sound as the most important gameplay element has not been improved upon yet, not even by Thief 3.

Chrono Trigger (Snes/PS1/DS) - the story, the music, the neat graphical style (including the beautiful cutscenes in the PS1 and DS versions), it all makes Chrono Trigger one of the finest RPGs available.

Super Monaco GP (Amiga). No kidding, this game really wowed me when I was a kid. To me it was the most awesome racer available. That was until I got Lotus 2, Supercars 2...

Morrowind (PC). The first time you get off the boat and the rich and glorious fantasy world is presented to your eyes... I just stood there, looked around and went WOW. After that I hastily went through the character creation process and I went for a long walk, and I kept walking and swimming until I had visited and seen most of the major towns in the game on foot.

Ishar 3 (Amiga / PC). I have to admit, graphically this game is a pearl and it has a very rich atmosphere. It is only too bad it is damn near impossible to complete without a guide. Still the first time I started to walk around the city and got beat up by bandits I went WOW. When I went into a store and the music started to play I went WOW. When I went through the first portal and got drawn into the forest (with amazing graphics and sounds), I went WOW.

Final Fantasy 7 - what can I say, the only game ever that made me shed a tear. The *SPOILER* scene at the end of Disc 1 where Aeris is killed by Sephiroth is the most emotionally impressive scene I have seen ever in a game. A big WOW for that. Also the impressive materia system wowed me completely. the insane combos you could make were vast and endless.

I found the graphics beautifull, but it was on atari st, it's perhaps the explanation.
