Teac 224e slim-line cdrom ... finddevice, found once and never again!?

Ok I fired up the A600 again today to try and get that teac 224e slimline cdrom working with idefix again.

I booted up and clicked on finddevice......and bang the Teac224e showed up!!! So I click use, but of course I hadnt got it all set up for mounting the cdrom. So I re-ran the idefix installer and when it got to the installing cdrom using finddevice part it didnt show up again!

This was with the cdrom unjumpered and the harddrive unjumpered, which actually means they are both set to master, but its the best result yet.

Actually I think the HD was on Channel 1 and the cdrom was on Channel 2.

Also the Teac224e showed up on the same finddevice screen as the Hard drive so it may have ended up under scsi.device?

Also if its any help when scanning I have it set to show all devices and when it gets round to scanning atapi.device it scans longer than any other .device as if it has found something but ends up failing somewhere.

Any ideas?

Still need help with this UPDATE:

So far I have my 1gb cf card working as a hard drive and my 2mb sram card working ok. However FindCD included with idefix still cannot find my cdrom.

Im using a registered idefix

I have tried:

2 different cdroms
2 different buffers
2 different cdrom adapters
2 different 40pin ide cables
A desktop cdrom drive

I have also tried putting it on ch1 and ch2 of the buffer. The slimline adapters dont have jumpers on them so I guess they are masters.

Any ideas on this? This has plagued me for months and I cannot understand why it isnt working for me but working for many others!

I remember once a couple of months ago, it showed up in FindCD as Teac 224E but then i lost it, rebooted and it never came back.

Any help is appreciated

EDIT: IS THIS EVEN POSSIBLE USING WORKBENCH 2.1 AND KICKSTART 37.350?!
