Question GameBase Amiga - Torrents? [OBSOLETE]

Just to let whoever cares know, since there are halfway decent mass host downloads for the games now and since everything else (except SPS and no, there will be no SPS downloads at all) is available for direct download, I will not be making any torrents unless there is enough demand.

You may demand here.

i voted for torrents because all the download-hosters have a limit of MB per hour/day you can download so for the whole 1.3+ GB pack you'll need endlessly time and effort. Torrents are the way for the whole pack, updates etc. are fine with the download hosts...

Hmm, actually I'm not aware of any such limit for Savefile, if anybody gets all the files from there, could they please post something about it in my Mass Host Experiences thread? I assume that is an important point in deciding whether there should be torrents as well.

Try zshare, there is no limit per hour/day.

great, i'll try this one, thanks m8.
Only the anoying "klick klick" wait for download to finish "klick klick" wait "klick klick" wait .... but hey, it's a free service and so it's ok.
Thanks to the Gamebase Amiga staff for making it possible!

Well there might yet be torrents, but there's another issue: I can only seed them for a few days (with about 40 to 50 KByte/s) and I doubt there will be enough interest to keep them alive for very long without a steady seed.

Savefile for example will keep the files indefinitely as long as there's a single download every (I think) 14 days. So that is a longer lasting solution.

If anybody has any other ideas, I'm ready to consider any reasonable suggestions.

Edit: by the way, I seem to remember on Savefile at least you can get more than one file at once. Also you can of course get one file from one host and one from the other so you can at least get two at once.

torrents require that people seeds the files after downloading also or the thing weighs all on your computer. i don't count much on seeding happening regularly. i think that's gamebase amiga/mage it's already a big effort on your part, download hosting services should be enough, then someone else interested could seed.
so i vote no: i would like torrents, but i suggest that they come later.

I personally don't use it and I have no free access to binary groups. Feel free to make the Games packs (and other packs for all I care, although the others are more likely to undergo minor changes) available anywhere you want and post information about it in this forum.

me too i don't use it, i've tryied it a couple of times but it seems to me unnecessarily far more complex than torrents instead. it could be a support for the spreading but not the main thing, i suppose.

Although I used to use usenet, my isp sucks bigtime for usenet access, but as elowar says, if anyone wants to flood A.B.E.M. with GameBase Amiga files then feel free!

Use eMule. Then outsiders will stumble across the files. What is being downloaded is also shared so the files will spread. No need to adopt & babysit a torrent.
