How many of you are/were Atari 8bit users?

I bought Atari 800 in 1981 because of Star Raiders! I say it on a Big Screen TV and I was hooked. The 3D graphics, and sound were fantastic for an '81 computer system. I did not upgrade to the ST line, but switched to an Amiga 500 system in 1989. The graphics, and sound of the Amiga were fantastic. I say the Juggler demo at a local computer store and I knew that I found the system that I had been looking for.

Kinda funny though. My favorite computer/game systems were the Atari 2600, Atari 800, and the Amiga 3000. All of which jay Miner had direct input in the design.

How many other EAB members were Atari 8bit users?

Maybe 'Chopper Command' by Activision - that was pretty good.

No Atari's here, but the v2600 was the first console I played at a friends house. Possibly playing Combat or Atlantis.

The Vic20 was the first 8bit I owned; infact I still have it, but most of the games are seriously poor compared to todays standards (obviously).

Mind you, Amok and Blitz still help pass the odd hour or two.

I started out with the Apple II+, but picked up an Atari 800XL and a 130XE later because they were inexpensive, and fun to play around with. I still have both, though they're packed away. They were good little machines. My favorite games for them were ones like Spelunker and Jumpman.

The only ever had the Atari 2600 and my favourite games on that were Crystal Castles, Solaris, Bezerk, Defender, Crossbow & WWF Wrestling ( 2 players ).

I came "extremely" close to buying an 1040 STFM, but then realised the error of my ways and bought an A500 instead. But then i realised that the Battle of Britain required an extra 512k for the sound and had to fork out even more.. lol.

Never had an Atari 8bit system, but I wanted one. I remember seeing an Atari 400 in a store with the membrane keyboard and I wanted one. A couple years later I eventually ended up with a C64 computer. I can remember all my friends having different computers. One had an Atari 800, one had an Apple ][, a couple of us had C64's, and we would argue about which one was better.

Can anyone point me to the best Atari 800 emulator + some of the best games to emulate? IIRC Dropzone was the first game Archer MacLean made for Atari 800?

there were so many ports back then... I mainly emulate atari games with either z26win (using the emulaoder interface) or Mess... only thing I really enjoy emulating on my 800xl (or better yet, playing on my real system) is Miner 2049er, Bounty Bob Strikes Back, MULE or Karateka.

and the rest of my favorite atari games were all on the 2600.

Adventure (the first easter egg on a home system I think?)
BarnStorming
Bowling
Chopper Command
Combat
Demon Attack
Frostbite
Golf
HERO
Haunted House
Kaboom!
Keystone Kapers
Megamania
Pitfall
Pitfall 2
Pressure Cooker
Raiders of the Lost Ark
River Raid
Star Raiders
Star Master
Super Breakout
Superman
Warlords
Yar's Revenge

all excellent games I've played over and over throughout the years

I must admit i was firstly looking of the CBS coleco vision but it was too expensive and finally, i got some real pleasure with my Atari. I later switch to an Atari 520 ST... even if i was firstly looking for an Amiga but it was too expensive.... DAMN my dream are too expensive ? finally i got some real pleasure with my Atari

We got a CBS Colecovision before we got the Atari 2600!. My brother is 5 years older than me and had just started his apprenticeship, so he went out and bought one, we ended up getting a steering wheel and accelerator pedal with it too.

It came with 2 games that were Turbo & Donkey Kong. I later on bought only 1 other game for it which was Zaxxon by going hungry every lunch time and using my lunch money that my mum gave me to save up and buy it for $50 !. lol
