Scsi Pcmcia
Will this work in A1200?
http://www.adaptec.com/worldwide/sup...dkey=APA-1460B If not, are there any alternatives that will (Squirrel excluded of course)?

No. It is cardbus (32-bit), not pcmcia (16-bit)

This one is 16bit, will it work? If so what drivers are needed?

@alexh:
Where can I get the worlds second? ![]() @DDNI, Smiley1635: The APA-1450 card is a 16-bit PC Card (PCMCIA) and should fit just fine as long as it isn't keyed for 3.3V-only operation (if it isnt mentioned, it is most likely a regular card). Unfortunately there are as far as I know no drivers for it. Last edited by patrik; 22 May 2006 at 23:28. |

Nice picture. Is it a retail product or a commissioned work?

Weird, I thought it would require a 32-bit bus, since USB is 32-bit spec (afaik).
Might be worth asking Platon42 if he knows anything about it. Do you have info on the chipset used? |

@Boot_WB:
USB is a 1-bit bus .Keeping to the subject - say if you have a 32-bit chip, it isnt that hard interfacing it using a 16-bit or 8-bit bus, with the help of some latches and a little bit of logic. |

It is commercial. The chip is 16-bit and handles all conversion internally. Yes I have the information on the chipset. Chris Hodges already has one. (Well I've sent him one).
Oh and it's also a high speed UART, not that anyone would want one of those nowadays?

I was hoping that someone might be interested in it for the Amiga market. But to be honest it cannot truely compete with E3B's Subway product.
(Which uses another of our chips so we win either way )The subway uses the clockport and so keeps the PCMCIA port free. As most desktop users like to use their PCMCIA slot for Ethernet this PCMCIA USB host is at a bit of a disadvantage to the Subway.

In general PCI and ISA are two very different beasts and if you were to make them interface eachother, the difference in the width of the databus would definately not be the issue complicating such a design the most. @alexh: Where can one buy this card? It's a devkit for a chip never meant to be used in this way. It's supposed to be used inside phones or other embedded devices. That isnt to say that if I can get it to work that it wont become for sale for Amiga's. The chip that makes it work however is of course on sale... just not made onto a pcmcia board.

I can confirm that Adaptec has made 16-bit PCMCIA SCSI cards. I had one for a long time back when 16-bit PC-Cards were still the hottest thing in laptop expansion. :-)
