Heck, it can do things with _16_ colours that should still make the PC run and hide in a closet....
Hell with just 4 colors it can rip the M$-PC heart out and show it to him while it's still beating

Lightbulb OS39-BB2 patches included in AmiKit

For those who are interested in AmigaOS3.9 patches included in AmiKit:

I've uploaded all of the patches to amikit yahoo group. They are stored in single LhA archive and thus easy to unpack on "real" Amiga...

- Amigaguide.datatype 45.6
- Console.device 44.10
- FastFileSystem 45.14
- Icon.library 45.4
- MultiView 45.10
- RAM-Handler 44.23
- Rexxsyslib.library 44.2
- Shell 45.12
- Workbench.library 45.131

To access the archive you have to subscribe to the amikit yahoo group by sending an (empty) email to amikit-subscribe@yahoogroups.com

That's great glwxxx , but it is impossible to log in to Yahoo groups with a real Amiga. I've tried it on many different occasions. (why does everybody put Amiga stuff on Yahoo groups?)

Does anybody know what the actual changes are to FFS 45.14 and Multiview 45.10? (the only two I want to use in 3.1)

Do they fix any horrible bugs? I don't see it in the documentation.

Thumbs up

Thanks! There may still be bugs, but at least they will be the latest versions of bugs.

hmmm...

why redistribute the same information? I would have thought it was a collection of the actual files updated...

probably not exactly technically legal (perhaps) but justifies the use of duplication...

Yes I was expecting the actual files, but it doesn't matter. They were easy to patch anyway.

Does anybody know why the "Find" options are greyed out in Multiview? (when viewing text or guides)

errr mine aren't...

I would suggest you are missing some optional mui classes or other...

or some functions are only activated with later revisions of certain libraries?

I am running 3.9 BB2

why not reboot... run snoopdos or similair and then open something in multiview... could convey something missing... hence ghosted fuctions...

Wha? Multiview should have nothing to do with MUI classes.

SnoopDOS is the first thing I tried and the only thing that failed was REXX:Multiview. On my (legal) 3.9 CD-ROM, there is no Multiview rexx file in S:. Is this Multiview rexx file part of a boingbag that brings up a find requestor? I never could install those damn boingbags because I don't have a CD-ROM.

If someone has this Multiview rexx file in S:, could you upload it? I still may not be able to use it if it uses any 3.9-only functions. (there are many reasons why I use 3.1 instead of 3.9 even though I own 3.9)

Please could you re-upload this? Probably this will fix my troubles.
I downloaded Aminet versions (2 files) and Amikit (1 file), but there is no install or copy tool.
I had to use spatcher (from Aminet) to patch the files one by one, but I could not update these remaing files:

console.device (not found in SYS: )
RAM-Handler (not found in SYS: )
shell (which? I have only shell.info in system, in env, in env-archive)

Could anyone tell me where to find the files above?
...and
What is the reason to use spatch/spatcher? Could not the files be released in their final form?

fc.studio those files are not "visible" they should be extracted from the AmigaOS ROM Update that is located in devs:
How? Simple from the AmiKit package use a tool that is named extractmodule or something like that. Docs for it are in the package.
On the other hand, going this route means, you will afterwards need another tool called loadmodule, in order to manually load that patched files on startup.
Anyway, if you carefully read the docs in the Amikit package you should solve all your troubles.

Surely I was not clear, but I want install them on a real A1200 with OS3.9.
I would like to avoid to install AmiKit because in my opinion nothing gives the feeling of the real Amiga, but if this could help I'll try to read the docs in the Amikit package.
Thanks.

To update the rom modules theres a tool in the blizzkick package to split the rom update (from bb2) into its individual components. then you can download the patches and spatch from aminet to update the modules. I dont think theres is any tool to rebuild the romupdate file, but you can use blizzkick or mmulib or similar tool to apply the updated os modules.

With all these patches coming out for OS3.9 - Do I have to install all of them in sequence (like we do with the BoingBags) or can we just install the latest and be done with it (like MS Windows' Service Packs)?

With most of them being old & for different things the order would only depend on the set up your running...as you point out their NOT Boing bag auto installs where a series of major issues are changed .

As with any patch though if you notice strange behaviour after applying it ..it helps if you note what if possble can be done to UNDO it's changes before you apply it !

After all a patch is NOT a seperate application ..but a code "hack" into your previously working system

Currently I'm running AmigaOS 3.9 with BB2 - no further updates to the OS. Which patches do I need to fully update my system?
