Whose FTPs are still up nowadays?

Not sure if this is the right forum section to ask in, but I couldn't find more obvious candidates.

It's been a long while since I last mingled with Amiga-themed FTPs. I'm not too sure if many of you are still running any anymore. Unless people could care to prove me wrong here? I'm in a mood to lurk around again, hehe.

Same here, it's been a long time since I've been able to sync my collection and all the old FTPs seem to be dead.

I've got next week off work.. if ppl are nice enough I might put the AMIGA ONLY section of the ftp back online

It's only about 140gb but I'm sure that'd be plenty.. oh and it isn't tosec 100% (I became bored lol)

hmm, seems this idea is moot now, considering Bippy's limited speed and all these people that want to use it, I'll leave off updating my collection.

It's been long since last time I connected to BippyM's FTP. (so far nice to BippyM )

I am interested in his work on WHDLoad project, but I don't need FTP access for that, do I?

And rescently I found nice well up to date FTP with Amiga TOSEC and Incomplete CAPS collection, but because of some other emu stuff I can't post the web page here.

I've been meaning to set up an FTP since I first joined EAB, whenever that was. So, after seeing this thread, I set about putting a server together using an old PC I had lying around. I put a new 250GB drive in it, a Firewire card and a wireless card, and it didn't work - whenever I copied a file to the main drive from an external Firewire drive it crashed. So, I spent nearly £200 building a new computer to use as a dedicated FTP/database/web server. Put it together, copied a file over from the Firewire drive - it crashed again. Turns out that the £10 Firewire card is dodgy.

Arse.

Anyway, I'm still working on putting the server together. If anyone's interested, have a look here:

Address: ant512.homeip.net
Port: 21
Username: eab
Password: thisisatest

I've only got 256Kb up, so don't expect miracles, and there isn't much on the server yet. It should be up most of the time (this is the reason for getting a dedicated box).

If anyone wants to upload anything, PM me and I'll create an upload account for you.

Note that this is still a test, so don't be surprised if the server suddenly vanishes.

bippym,

since you want/need to limit speed to an FTP server, would you consider sticking it online as a torrent instead? That way many more people can access it and share speeds.

I don't want it as a torrent - I'm using a real Amiga here. I just set up AmiTradeCentre and I'm dying to try it out.

If someone could teach me how to get eMule to actually download anything at all (even with the ports set up and made router-compatible) then I might take that as a more serious source in future, alongside Usenet and torrents.

A bit of warning though, when it comes round to seeding you may end up waiting a long time for anyone to accept your seed. I still am.

Hmmmm, okay, while I'm leaving the other torrent in seed mode, I can download a popular MAME torrent and use it to get my seed ratio up, will that work?

I've set higher priority towards seeding over d/ling too, that's good also?

Great, they have all the Tosec stuff... but you need to download full sets, many GB's! With a 1:1 ratio how should one upload that much? I'm "late to the party!"
Does anyone know other sources with Tosec updates with only the latest additions?

Thanks ant512!

Your server went down last night when I was in the middle of a download ("don't be surprised if the server suddenly vanishes" - I wasn't surprised ), but today everything is working nicely. I found a couple good things.

Not sure what happened there - the computer has been running for the past few days without reboots. Might be that the IP address changed - I've got a dynamic IP and a DynDNS client, but if the address changes it can take a few minutes before the DNS updates.

Thanks for letting me know, though - I'll keep an eye on it. Glad you found something useful!

FTP currently down. Windows on the FTP box refuses to connect to my network when it's in the spare room (either wirelessly or via a standard network connection); when I move it into the computer room and connect up a monitor, it does connect to the network, but only when I log into Windows. If I set the computer up to log in automatically and move it back into the spare room, it still does not connect to the network. If I give the box a dynamic IP, it seems to connect to the network more quickly; however, my router does not assign IPs via MAC address, so this is not an option.

It was working fine this morning. Words cannot express my loathing for Windows. I'd switch the whole thing to Ubuntu but I need SQL Server 2005 and .NET 2.0. Maybe I could just stick those in a VMWare virtual machine...

Now that is a statement I agree with so much, it could have been peeled directly out of my brain.

I appreciate your effort in getting the FTP up. If it wasn't for your FTP, I wouldn't have MacOS 8 on my A500 right now. (see screenshot: http://www.amiga.org/modules/myalbum...lid=2550&cid=1 )

Ahh, good stuff! I thought it was a bit too big to put in the Zone, so the FTP was my compromise. The Classic Mac versions of the Monkey Island games are on the HDF somewhere, they're pretty good.

No, they're not on the HDF. The HDF only contains a basic OS8.1 installation. If you mean the Mac zip file, that thing is 387Mb! It would take me about 60 hours of straight download time.

Even if they were on the HDF, it's no good for me - they require a minimum of 256 colours.

OK, it's back up again. It went up earlier, but I was running it in the computer room whilst I went out, and had to move it back to the spare room just (apologies to whoever was 17MB through a 300MB-odd download when I switched it off; hope your FTP client supports resuming!). Anyway, the IP problems may be related to my router rather than Windows, so I'm still keeping an eye on it and can't guarantee that it won't flake out half way through a download.

Had a go at running an Ubuntu live CD on it to check hardware compatibilty, but the ancient CD-ROM drive in the computer won't read it. Bah.

@mr_a500 - Yeah, but it's a good zip file. Two Monkey games, Doom, Doom 2, Netscape, IE; think Word's on it too.
