Destruction Derby

Hi all,
A friend and I were arguing about wether or not Destrucion Derby by Psygnosis was released on the Amiga, can anyone settle this has we have a bet on it know. Us blokes never grow up, arguing over games.:laugh
It started after we had a game on the PC, next thing we were arguing like a couple of kids.
Please help someone.

And it's a damn shame, as Destruction Derby is one of the finest racing games ever done.

It may look like shit, but it's incredible playable and much better than the crap sequel.

Thumbs up I agree

We spent an whole afternoon and evening playing the PC version.
It may not look the best, but for 1995 this game has awesome playabiltiy.

I thought both Destruction Derbys were pretty good ... what problems did the sequel have then, Shatterhand?

*NOTE: Full version of Destruction Derby now available for free from www.theunderdogs.org * :laugh

Question yeah, please explain

what the hell is wrong with destruction derby 2?!?
i found it vastly superior to the original in every way.
please note i'm going by the psx versions here sop forgive me if there is a difference between various system versions but DD2 was MAAAAAAAD. Massive airtime, exciting commentary, rockin music and realistic damage, everything the original did NOT have.
Has anyone experienced the utter SHIT that is Destruction Derby Raw?

If we are talking about the PC version, I think DD2 is crap also.

The original had average graphics, but great gameplay. The second one has the same average graphics but none of that gameplay.

Maybe it is good multiplayer though

Yeah, I played DD2 for PC , not the PSX version, and I found it to be REALLY rubbish.... maybe the PSX version is vastly superior to the PC version...

I only had a keyboard to play games for PC in that time, and I remember DD2 was damn unplayable. It was just IMPOSSIBLE to make the car run in a straight line in the track, it was always "pulling" to one side... the car was damn uncontrollable, and most of time you seemed to be guided by luck, not by your skills. (And I am saying this being mastered some REAL hard racing games, like Stunt Car Race or GP2)..
the "Arena" also in DD2 was crap, most of time there was nothing you could do, just sit and wait 'til they destroy your car. in DD 1 there was lots of skill involved. DD 1 still remains to me one of the finest arcade-like racing games ever done.

Never played DD raw, but only heard bad comments about it

Cool

yeah you're right, the psx version of DD2 is indeed a very cool game, however i still think that the first is the best in my opinion

Thumbs up Only played DD1 on PC

I have only played Destruction Derby 1 on my PC in 1996 and I was gobsmacked when I first saw it. I mostly liked the arena where you could wreckage your car and view the action afterwards from different viewpoints.
Wasn’t Destruction Derby programmed by Reflections (who did also Beast on Amiga)?

Yeah, developed by Reflections, who made the Beast series, Brian the Lion and Awesome ..

I must admit that I never liked the arena stuff that much, I always prefer to do proper race.

Destruction Derby 1 is really fantastic. The graphics are rather weak (the game most of time has trouble to put the textures on the track properly), but the game is just fantastic. The tracks are perfectly designed, the control over your car is perfect, and the AI is probably the best I ever saw in a racing game (Each CPU driver has a different AI, you always see Learner Driver doing stupid things on track, while The Undertaker is always trying to hit other people in the track or The Passion Wagon doing always a fair race)

That's mainly because Destruction Derby was in my 1st batch of PC games, and I played it for a looooong time, beating the game in all divisions many many times...

I've learned to see who is who by just looking at their cars, and with time I learned the way each one likes to drive

I believe DD2 doesn't have this nice thing...
