Wipe Out

Wipe Out by Gonzo Games. under-rated Tron-like fun.

there's a good CAPS image of this game knocking about, hopefully someone will one day WHD this game so i can avoid the annoying (and dodgy) loading system and just enjoy what this game has to offer, withought the need for that stupid "leaguedisk" thing.

plus it would mean that i could probably make the 2 player option online playable with kalliera!

I'd second this request, I was trying to play the cracked version the other day and it's AWFUL.

What a flippin mess they made of the crack!

well i guess it shows there is no accounting for taste - especially from the germans <joke> - but perhaps you shouldnt be so quick to assume its crap if the views are so polarised? there are still more positive reviews than negative ones.

Personally i trust the long standing and well respected Amiga Format myself - having read the review, i can tell you it is intelligently written and makes very valid points about the game, which i can verify because ive actually played it!

i'm not trying to claim its SWOS level of greatness or anything, but its one game its very easy to see as crap, but in fact isnt.

still - all this tell us is that galahad wont be making the slave for it - depsite the fact there are whdload slaves made for far far worse games. Oh well.

Oh yes!! CFOU! patched Yolanda, dunno why.

Mmh, it's well known that english magazines highly over/underrated a lot of games. No surprise they overrated this shit too.

played it a lot have you Retro-Nerd? i doubt it.

oh and you'll notice one of the postive reviews comes from a non-english mag - throwing your "over rating in the UK" arguement out the window!

i think you germans just hate everything you dont understand...

i've already said - not the "greatest" game - but to dismiss as "utter crap" just shows a unwillingness to give something different a try.

edit: anyway, im not here to discuss the pros/cons of this game - but to discuss the possibility of a whdload slave... so lets save on the "game bashing" thanks

A lot? I guess 10 minutes are enough to judge this as crap.

said already, please save on the "game bashing"

and 10 minutes is, imho, not enough to judge it (or most games) at ALL.... although if you are playing the dodgy cracked version, i could understand why you might not give it more than 10 minutes- as it makes the loading process somewhat frustrating. One of the reasons i feel the game deserves a whd slave... if it loaded comfortably, more people might realise the game's has many merits.

however, this game is pretty massive, and needs a lot more than ten minutes to get into and undestand fully, something you'd know if you'd tried it properly!

Sorry for bashing your hit game, Horace. But there are better games which need to WHDfied, like Oil Imperium or Whale's Voyage.

well having not played (or heard of) either, that is not my place to judge - and i certainly would not say any game didnt deserve a whd slave, based on my opinion of said game (for example, Great Giana Sisters is to me, possibly the worst amiga platform game ever created - but no doubt some other people are glad to have it WHDed)

on this basis, we could go back-and-forth all year on discussing which games are more deserving, because of one person preferring the game over another game... It is all subject to taste, and it would be pretty boring if everyone rated games equally, although we would have a simpler "order" on which games were WHDed.

however, being that Wipe Out game is actually made -worse- to play because of a bad bit of cracking, and the only playable copy being on IPF (stopping anyone from enjoying it on real amigas without the original disk and necessary hardware) there is reason there to argue that Wipe Out may be in "need" of WHDing a bit more than even some recognised "good" games without WHD installs, such as Sim City, Sim Ant, or Speedball 2 which already play fine with alternative installers.

I think Codetapper should do the slave as he also did the slave for Top Banana. And that's the crappiest game I've ever seen on any platform. Wipe Out can't be worse than that.

Horace, shut up!!!

Giana Sisters the worst Amiga platformer? Damn, you disqualify yourself again.

@StingRay:

Try Yolanda, THIS is the crappiest amiga game i've ever seen. Besides Brattacas, of course.

And I just checked out Yolanda. All I can say is: WTF? That's one helluva crappy game. But it doesn't beat Top Banana because Top Banana features the "better" graphics!

i thought this ^^ had stopped.

i could just post a positive quote from one of the other reviews inreply, but it would achieve nothing.

I understand you dont like the game... I do however, and there will be others out there who also enjoy it!

As usual it's all a matter of taste! But Giana Sisters the worst platform game? But as long as you don't say Top Banana is the best platform game there's still hope.

i dont like Super Mario either... no surprises i think GGS is poor-handling, horrible looking, un-needed and un-wanted clone, for which the games greatest feature is the cracktro music. i wouldnt expect everyone to agree me is the difference here.

Retro-Nerd: if forming a sensible arguement in-favour of a slave, defending a games un-needed belittling and bringing to attention something which may otherwise go un-noticed is "begging" - then that's fine for me.... its better than just writing "pleeeease" in the biggest letters EAB allows

and whats so unusual about a custom formatted save-disk?

funnily enough, im not expecting a slave out of all this any time soon, if this is the kind of hatred that is encited by a single request.

It's always funny to tease you a little, because i like your serious passion in defending lousy games.

And yes, there will be a WHDLoad patch someday.

Gonzo-Dos sound funny, imho.

after KG sent me some generic installer stuff to try out (file and disk-image slaves) which he'd used on the Croak installer, i thought i'd have a go at trying to make a slave for this.

alas, even the cracked-to-dos version refused to work. (exitting after the crappy cracktro) whilst the disk-image version still tried to access the floppy drives before quitting out.

im beginning to lose hope on ever getting an installer for this mis-understood gem.
