I dunno. From what David's said before, he doesn't really have plans to change the emulation core - just add features. He'd probably have to rewrite it as ME fails a lot of timing tests. It's one of the reasons why David probably never released a system debugger for it (which mednafen has).

Yeah, mednafen's setup is not as smooth as with a GUI system, but editing the config file isn't so bad. Once it's configured, you only need to double click the rom or cue file not worry about it again. Except for changing controller configuration which can be done through the emu itself (press f1 for help screen).

I don't know David's plans. Wasn't the v1.x already a rewrite of the old versions? There are some nasty bugs in several CD games, that's true.

Edit: This sounds not bad:

The new version may be a bit late.
At the moment I'm running a lot of tests on a true PC-Engine to tune the new emulation core but it's taking me more time than I had planned so the release will probably be late of one or two weeks, this should push it to early february

Hmm. That sounds interesting The current version of 1.x hasn't improved the timing issues/accuracy and sound emulation since 0.9x. The CPU core was still off in cycle times, some of the video display emulation is missing, it's not handling the 6 dac/audio channels correctly - you can't pair them in ME, etc. But I wasn't aware that he was doing some tests on the real system again. Then again, mednafen source is open so one only needs to look at that to get an idea (a number of us have submitted our own tests and have done tests for the author to improve accuracy). I was genuinely surprised when DM made SGX hardware emulation available to any rom in 1.x (not that it's 100% yet, but still). Anyway, things are looking up for ME I guess.

Then use Ootake or Mednafen.

Retro Fag, are you related to my old chum (who no longer posts here), Retroman?
Anyway, I agree it's interesting. I bought Magic Engine for both Windows & Mac and it rocks. No need to burn anything because on Windows virtual drives like Daemon or Alcohol 120% work fine with Magic Engine.
As for HuGo, that is the most useless, buggy, awful, shitty emulator I have ever used. I even let the author know his maddening fiddling with the GUI and emu features with every version was lousy.
He agreed!
