SX-32 Hardrive

I know i'm looking for a 2.5 inch 44 pin hardrive, but i am more concerned about the fixing holes lining up.

Does anyone here have a SX-32 with hardrive installed, and if so which model do you have ?

Thanks !

I've got a SX32-Pro with harddisk. It's got a Seagate 127MB disk in it - the one that originally came with my A1200HD package

I think pretty much any 2.5" drive would be suitable though...

If the holes dont align, why not just drill some more, or use an elastic band like I do in my A600.

Make sure not to block any air holes

Just in case anyone's wondering what this means..

There are two kinds of 2.5" drives.. Ones with the mounting holes in the corners (most modern drives) and ones with the holes near the center of the drive (most older drives).

Do you know what is the model number of the Seagate drive you have ?

to be honest with you THX1138, it would not only be cheaper for you but you would also get better storage if you considered an old 1 - 4 GB 2.5ins laptopdrive for the small cost of about 20GBP (you can find 'em so much cheaper at computer fairs, i picked up a 20GB HDD ibm/toshiba for 15 quid... still rocking today in an external caddie )

but seriously if its cost per meg that you think of, it is a simple mod for a 3.5 ins HDD and you can have multiple partions with the whole tosec library.. (that i may or may not have ).

would be cool in a CD32 though..

[edit] stay away from fujistu drives... ... plain nasty... (from many years experience this advice)

now if there was only a way to mod the drive unit so one could have a dvdrw in there instead... hmmm is the cd32 an IDE unit or butchered scsi again ?

hmmm imma gonnna go have a lil look....

Yes...,,your right,I would like as much storage space as possible.

But the problem that i am having at the moment is to do with physical
size of the hardrive.

I now have a hardrive which now attache's to the SX32 ok,but the problem now is that the hardrive is a little too high, and is near on impossible to install into my CD32.

Another thing one could consider, is using a CardFlash media ram and an IDE -> CF dongle

the dongle is about 4.00 GBP and the CF card about 10 - 20 GBP for 512MB

after a little setup time its awesome... solid state technology ) no noise )

insofar as drive size

if you stick laptop pulls like ibm/toshiba - travelstar, segate and western digital. you should be okay.. sounds to me you have a very *VERY* old drive.

most of these will be in the 3 - 6Gb range... (which is good) 1GB workbench and apz partition, 1GB music / demos partition and a 4GB GAMES partition )

Hey I like the sound of this idea!

So your saying if I bought an ide cf adaptor and slapped in a 512meg card I could treat it as an hard drive?

Yepo, i have one working here on a particular project )

its a little finniky you need to change the MAXTRANSFERS in the setting to get it to work properly as the amiga cannot chunck all that data at once lol

Maxtransfers (in the harddrive prep menu)

Orginal 0xFFFFFF change to 0x1FFFFF

works perfectly

other than that you can treat / abuse it like a hard disk.

There is a thread on this my dear EB, seach for posts by Shrub he inspired me to do it. there is a full thread on it so it should be nice and easy to replicate )

A word of caution once you have changed the maxtransfers you may not be able to use that device in a camera or such like without changing it back.
