Need some suggestions for player health bar in Moonstone

The Moonstone forum is back up as you probably know, but the forum regulars havnt gotten the news yet so I'm asking here.

Any ideas/suggestions on how the health bar should look like for the player? Do you know any medieval looking game with a cool healthbar I can use?

Also, any smart ideas on how to make the enemy harder? cuz right now you can beat him easily in many ways. I'm not a good coder, so nothing complicated please.

And should the health meter be located at the top left of the screen or bottom left?

Make some design suggestions and post them or edit the picture.

Thanks...

I'd want the health-meter to be on the top, as you'll be using the bottom part of the screen for the most part, and no need to have the health-meter block your view.

That's my contribution

It looks like the health bar is following the player, so it's not statically blocking the view.

The enemies will have a little healthbar underneath them, but we are talking about the healthbar for the player.

I have an alternate suggestion for enemy health: maybe final fight style. Whenever you hit an enemy, his health bar (and possibly name) pops up in the top left of the screen, then disappears after a few seconds.

As for player health, give it a permanent place on the screen somewhere, top right corner for example. Give it the same color as your character.

Or another neat idea would be to have an icon of your character that gradually changes as he receives more damage. Think about Terminator 2 (beat em up version) or Ski Or Die - snowball battles. You could make the character slump over while receiving more and more bloody marks on his clothes, until he is laying in a pool of blood or something.

As for harder enemies, that's AI related, which is never easy. They are probably terminators now (hunt & destroy), but that makes them way to predictable. What you want is unpredictability, which means throwing in random behavior patterns based on what the player is doing at that time. I have little experience with action script, so I have no advice whatsoever to give you

here here i like Gimbal`s suggestion!

Have a image of the character pop up in various stages of mutilation with gore flying off. that sounds cool to me

gimbal's suggestion is cool.

Maybe you could grab the haelth bar from Diablo / Diablo II. If I remember correctly these looked pretty good

edit: oops, Diablo uses a circular "container" for energy / mana. Not sure if this is possible or a good idea (see attached image)...

The health bar issue is still in question. Havn't bothered to look for one yet.

Need it to look retro and not like the one in Diablo.... could lower the size of it of course.. but don't think just a round glass globe will do.

Have the night change shades of colour..

For example the red knight changes from Crimson to pale red as he dies.. etc..

Original game had blinking when near death, I wont, will make them bleed and get more and more bloody the less health they get.

But these things has been put on the shelf at the moment... I currently need the enemy sprites to continue.
