1994 Amiga Hall of Fame Nominations

After EAB turmoil, after many flame wars and even after RCK's sick psychological experiment of running the forum with Mods, itís finally here.

(Queue fanfare and fireworks)

ITíS...... the how on earth did he drag this out for over a year now 1994 Amiga Hall of Fame Nominations

(Music fades)

And I'm your host, Freaky.

Just a quick recap of what you need to do, this may after all be the first time you have nominated.

You must know the rules by now, you are limited to nominating 10 only, any more and I just forget to read them. If youíre having trouble narrowing it down to ten then take a look to see if any on your list have already been nominated. It could save you from some tough decisions. But please do feel free to nominate some games more than twice as it cuts down the amount of typing I have to do in order to get the poll up and running, and lets face it some games are so good you just want to have your name connected to them in one way or another. Once all the nominations are in, I check to see if they are all 1994, then type (cut and paste) them all into a poll and we vote, after about two weeks a winner is declared.

To make life easy for you, a full list of games released in 1994 can be found by searching HOL or by clicking Here

A few things to mention, by 1994 a few games were being reissued or re-released with some slight modification on CD32 and also as AGA versions, I would rather not have these types of games nominated as this (1994) isnít their original year of release. The only circumstance I would change this is if there is an overwhelming view that the game has been modified to such a degree than it now constitutes a new game in all but its name. So if you are voting for an AGA or CD32 release just double check that the game isnít a reissue/ re-released. Right, time to go and look up my nominations

(Exits stage left whistling)

To add a little flavour here are mine:

Arcade Pool
Dreamweb
Formula One Masters (where are you now Steve Rennocks?)
and obv Sensible World of Soccer!

SWOS might not win, everyone might think SWOS is going to win easy so I'm going to vote for something else. Then it would lose

Well, here we go:

- Banshee

- Death or Glory - The Battle of Morgan (I spend months trying to get the HD install version some years later, after Software 2000 switched to the PC :P)

- DreamWeb (very nice atmosphere, I liked the diary that came with the game and told the background story)

- Elfmania

- Jungle Strike (need a pro at the winch? call me!)

- Microcosm (not so much for the actual gameplay, but for showing that the CD32 had actually some superior technology

- Reunion

- Ruff 'n Tumble (in terms of fast action superior even to Turrican)

- Super StarDust (for the gfx)

- Zeewolf

BTW, why 1994?

Does JetStrike AGA count? IMHO it's a superior game to the ECS version.

Other than that, how about:

Bubba n Stix
On The Ball World Cup Edition
PGA European Tour

Can't think of any more good ones that haven't been mentioned already at the minute. Mainly because there aren't very many.

(Hang on, though - it's edit time I think. How did I forget Lamborghini American Challenge and Fly Harder? That is DEFINITELY all I can think of!)

While AGA version is much better than the original, its just pretty much Jetstrike with a few bells and whistles on it.

Thanks for the handy link to the 1994 search results, as it makes things ever so much simpler for the lazy among us.

While SWOS may well end up winning, if so it won't likely do so due to the votes of those of us on this side of the "big pond". Soccer simply has never caught on over here to any great degree, and I'd be as likely to cast a vote for "Advanced Lawnmower Simulator" as I would for SWOS - at least that is something that touches on the familiar for me (and tomorrow it will play a prominent role in the start of my day, unlike anything related to soccer).

That having been said, here are my personal nominees from the class of '94:

Alien Breed: Tower Assault
Cannon Fodder
Civilization
Lemmings
Star Trek: 25th Anniversary
UFO: Enemy Unknown

A few problems, Cannon fodder (1993), Civilization (1992) and Lemmings (1991)

As I said lots and lots of re-releases and reissues out in 1994 to catch you all out.

Well, that ought to make it a lot easier for me to decide which one of those will get my vote, assuming that someone else doesn't nominate one that I missed, convincing me to change my mind.

Ruff n Tumble is one of the greatest games ever. But why makes it TURRICAN 2 redundant. Both are brilliant jump n shoot games sure. But Ruff n Tumble is a bit more jump n run stylish. For me Turrican 2 is unbeatable in the jump n shoot / shoot em up action genre. Anyway. Thatz a matter of taste of course.

That seems to be it, I'll leave it a few more hours and then its voting time. So if you have been putting it off, do it now
