I have a C64 (the oldest model, roudish and with dark keyboard) which I could possibly sell for a good price Anyone interested? It's only the computer, no PSU and so on...

Errm, how does it look exactly ?
Are the function keys more like orange or are they more grey ?
And what's written besides the power led ?
Could you post a picture of it ?
I am still searching for a pal C64 from the first series and will pay a good price !

I will have to look it more closely tomorrow, as far I can remember the function keys are grey, the others are brown. Besides the power led its written: Commodore 64 and colourfull strips. When I said 'dark keyboard' I meant the keys. The computer is beige or maybe gray... It was produced in 1983 or 84 something like that.

Yep, you've got the 8580 inside. I like it, its only "drawback"(which can be EASILY fixed) is teh low volume of samples. But I dont like samples so I like the 8580, and is the chip to have for listening to today's productions!

You just missed a very good one on eBay, that went for about 10/15 UKP.

It's a PAL version. It was working fine serveral years before... Now I don't have a PSU and cannot test it. But it was kept in original box in safe place, so I think it is working still...

OK, Ive checked up the C64.
The case is something like beige, the keys are dark brown (nearly black), the function keys are grey. The mainboard says:
MDK 10 HB
1983 COMMODORE INTL COMMODORE 64
ASSY NO. 250407 ARTWORK NO. 251137 REV. C
There is 6581 SID.
Made in West Germany...

Thanks for looking !
Your C64 seems to be a PAL Rev. 2 C64. At least it has the 2nd Board layout already.
The one I am looking for has simply '64' written besides the power led and has a metal plate on the left with 'Commodore' written on it and also orange, VC-20-like F-keys.
But thanks anyway

I think it will very difficult to find a C64 with a silver Commodore badge, I believe there are only 2,000 of those C64's made. I say that because I have a first generation C64, but it has the normal badge and keyboard, but it's serial number is 2,324. It was made around November 1982, in West Germany.
I believe it's one of the first production run of machines with the rainbow stripe badge. I think the mystery might be solved if owners of silver badged and 1982 C64s posted their serial numbers, only then will we get a real estimate of how many of those machines Commodore produced.

Well, on the original box that I have, there's such a C64 on the photos, I mean with the 'orange' function keys and a silver badge
Where could I read on the serial number?
Btw, what does mean 'the 2nd Board layout already' ?

The serial number should be on a label affixed to the bottom of the unit

It means the second major revision to the C64 mainboard. I think there were 3 major revisions of the original C64 mainboard, and many minor revisions inbetween.

Yours is a normal type, don't be worrying about it being mega old retro serial number 0000000001 or something because it surely isn't

Besides, it's almost mine, isn't it?

Khmm, I'm not so stupid to think my C64 is a mega old retro serial number 0000000001 or shit, but surely it is an old version of C64. Just wanted to know something about it... Btw, I had had serveral C64s, but this is the only one that I have today.... One of my former C64s was problably older and was made in UK The second was a more recent C64 model with the new style case.
It is possible that this comp will be yours, it depends on you I think

I have a C=64 origional with shit loads of software
also a C=64C, The Terminator 2 Special Edition Pack
and one C=64C lying around going spare that i may stick on ebay.
Also have an EPROM burner that came with it but ive only used this for burning NES cartridges so far. I would assume it was for burning games onto C=64 cartridge games!
