WTB: 060 or PPC-accelerator for A1200
well, since I'm moving to England, I thought I might hear if anyone in that area wanted to depart with an accelarator......
I won't have too much money straight away, though, I'll have to look up some work and get settled that way....but I really really want something faster than the 030/50 ![]() |

Try to move first to England and then find an accelerator there because if you want one to be shipped to Norway or any other place outside the UK then the shipping costs will be killing for you

well, I'll be moving tomorrow, tuesday....so I guess the post is still relevant, a whole 2 days after my original post :P
And I still want something faster..... the only thing is, it would be nice to agree with someone about price and stuff, and then I can get it from me first paycheck or some such ![]() |

My advice is to search for a PPC with a 040 as they often come a lot cheaper than a standard 1260. A 1260 is of course far better to play classic games but if you are not "loaded" then it might be better to take the cheaper BPPC which also allows you to play PPC games
Also with the upcoming OS4 in mind, with this article in mind , you are ready for a new experience with a BPPC ![]()

I would say, dont buy the 040/25 version!!! You need the 060/50 for so much OS stuff and demos +++
![]() I bought a 040/240mhz ppc and I still regret (bought when they were released) that I wanted to save some money for this card ![]() I would save some more, and get the proper 060 version.... my 50 cents ![]() |

Dont buy anything yet!!
All 060/ppc cards will be crap and worth nothing when this will be released soon.

Doc Mindie : you´re welcome
I always had something with Norwegians Kriz : what problem did you have with that 240PPC with 040 ?? Heat problems ??? Power supply problems ?? You can not put such a card in a normal desktop and even in a tower you need extra cooling, I know that !!

Effy: Never had any problems with the ppc part, but there are so much software I use that use the 68k cpu (almost all the demos and many games like napalm, genetic species and so on) .. (and lets not forget Os3.9
)Thats why I regret I bought the 040 version.. |

Do you mean the different versions you need to install (030 version, 040 version, 060 version) ???

Kriz doesn't specify what's the problem but i suspect that he consider the 68040/25 slow. I partially agree with him: I had a 68030/50 before i bought the 68040, and i was expecting to be faster than it actually is. I'm thinking of overclocking it at 33Mhz. The FPU is a lot faster than the 68882, though.

Amigamancer : true, the speed difference between a 68030/50/50 and a 68040/25 is not that great and the 68040 is less compatible with scene demo's but getting a higher speed like you suggested will make a big difference
