Lotus Turbo Challenge Remake in 96k

The Breakpoint demoparty, held last weekend, featured also a 96k game competition. The winner game is a remake of the original Lotus Turbo Challenge in a size of just 96k. It looks like the original game, so give it a try: http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=16427

I also would like to point your attention to two Amiga demos from that party: "Ocean Machine" from TBL and "Multiverse" from Loonies. Especially the demo from TBL shows some effects in a never seen before quality on 68k and AGA! And that music.... WOW!

Looks like the archive has been stripped from the site, and every mirror. Either that, or they haven't got it uploaded yet.

The 96k version of Lotus 1 is really impressive !! First listening of the title music sound a bit strange but after few seconds, it sounds nice too. Excellent work for sure !... and they talk about the sequel for next year
Most of 96k game or similar compo were majority pc release so it's a nice surprise to see an amiga game and it deserve his 1st place at the compo !

@ant : did you try with the pouet link ? it works 1 hour ago.

@Bobic : do you know if Yolk's music from TBL demo is available somewhere ? i try to rip it with RipIT (which handle S3M,XM,IT tracker) without success, i fear it's a streaming format. BTW for non-french people the women's voice is "mustard it's strong and it's for that it's good"

Is anything new added to the game - or is it just a "rebranded" and compressed version of the original??
Looks more like an amiga coverdisk demo game with the amount of "SCARAB" ads!

Download works in IE, but not Firefox. Might be the crap network setup here.

EDIT: Tried it. The game itself is identical to the original; it's just the option/intro/presentation screens that have changed. I could be wrong, but I'd guess that it's a modified disassembly of the original game.

Both the demos work without any real problems (some flickering during palette fades) in WinUAE. Technically, they're both very impressive - pretty much every effect is something that people 10 years ago would have thought impossible. At the same time, though, they're both... Um... Dull. Frighteningly dull. Some spinny 3D stuff; more spinny 3D stuff; ooo, some 3D stuff that spins. Whatever happened to entertaining demos?

@Frog: Yolk uploaded the track (mp3 format, 11MB) onto his website, because so many people requested it at www.pouet.net. He posted the link to the comments of this demo here -> http://www.pouet.net/prod.php?which=16337

Gotta agree with this. I only watched the first one and yes I was impressed with the visual feats that were being performed but essentially I was bored.

It just felt 'dull'.

It's a shame!

@Akira : even on 030 you can watch them and get an overall felling... it's always better than a slideshow don't forget to start every patch that can speed up the sys (setpatch, blazewcp, fblit etc..) who knows perhaps they could have some positive effect.

From a technical point of view, that is a very impressive achievement as it even has lots of the sound effects from the original game. However, I don't know how anyone can release this as a game they made because I would say a huge amount of the code has simply been ripped/included from Lotus Esprit Turbo Challenge.

The graphics are chunkier in places which is fair enough to save space, but I believe that the majority of the work for this "game" to be written is actually ripping the graphics from the original game then removing as much as possible while using effecient code to mirror the cars, stretch the graphics to create the missing frames in RAM, thus saving space.

The guys obviously have great skills and it would be nicer to see them work on an original game than how to compress an existing one and change a few tiny parts to release a "new" game...

What "etc.." ... well, there's also SystemPatch... but...

I thought that was it - or are there any more patches that speed up the system

Me wants to know
