towering an 1200 / selecting a case

i'd like to move my 1200 into a tower case.
i've got the documents i need but b4 i purchased a case i would like to know if there are features that make one case better than another for the 1200.

i'm looking at putting it in a midi tower. will the 1200 mobo be able to line up with the mounting holes in the tower?

where would be the ideal location to place the 1200 mobo within the tower?

i want to do extensions from the ports rather than actually cut the back out of the tower becuase i feel that it looks alot neater.

does anyone have pics of thier a1200t i could look at for ideas?

the best solution is buy a special tower for a1200. otherwise you will have to hardmodify PC case. Could you explain me reasons why do you want to put your ammy to tower ?

hah! you cannot put the a1200 on most midi towers... it does not fit...

from doing a number of tower conversions I'd say:-

- The mig will not line up with any holes in the case
- A wide tower (note the power tower is one of the widest PC towers there were) will give more room for the 1200 mobo and it's connections.
- Mount the mobo down one side of the case where the PC mobo would normally go, ports to the back of the case. You might have to remove the PC mobo tray and mount the 1200 mobo some other way
- NOT extending the cables from the back of the mobo (nightmare every time) - make a custom backplate and mount the ports on the back of the amiga into that.

the problem is of course, you need some metalworking skills!

soz I have not got any pictures (back in the day when digital cameras cost about a million pounds!)

hah yourself ur not thinking outside the square.

i didnt expect to just put it in im going to cut the case up.

as for why well my 1200 is a heap of shit at the moment and it needs the job done.

special towers... fuck that. the ones i've seen are ugly as hell and an unrealistic price. if someone has a link where i could get one id look at it...

either im going to do this and do it well.

ah, sorry, I did not mean to make fun of your project, the midi range towers just are not suitable... you can fit an a1200 easily on a full tower, but prepare to make all the nescessary hacks... and then you must create an atx->amiga PSU convertor, and buy an adaptor to allow you the use of external keyboards... IMHO all this hacking is not worth the time and you'll end up with something ugly... just search on ebay and wait someone to offer a tower or a towered a1200... they usually sell cheap because of their weight...
and don't say that all a1200 towers are ugly, take a look at RBM's 1200ex...

and here, a pic of the internal of my tower

you think it's ugly? this is personnal ofcourse, but this tower is actually very nice... you must take also into consideration its age... I do not remember pc towers to have slide doors to hide drives/cd's... at least not in Greece...
