Post New RetroMag in Oz

Hi Guys,

Just browsing the local newsagent and there seems to be a new Aussie retro mag out. Covers 8-bit, 16-bit, 32bit gaming. Its got a couple pages (only?!?!?) on A500, plenty of eye candy with screen shots from all sorts of retro games. Looks not bad, costs ~$25AU, The amiga section is a bit too small I reckon, but then again I am a bit biast. I was on the run so I only flipped through it briefly, so check it out and post some thoughts!

Cheers,

It's called Retro. It's 258 pages long. Done by the same people who do Games TM. No CD or anything like that.

I haven't bought it but have flicked through it at the local newsagent. It sounds like it's going to be a regular magazine, but I'm not so sure. It's been on the shelves for the last couple of months and the newsagents can't get rid of it.

So if they did have any plans to make it regular it may have been canned because of poor sales.

Personally I thought it was WAY to expensive for what it is. But hey that's just me It's no Retro Gamer by a long shot

Sounds like the special edition of Games TM that they produced, which was just a collection of the best bits of the monthly retro section. It was £10 over here in Blighty.

25 bucks is abit alot. Especially with no extras. Would be nice if it came with demos and games on DD disks.

www.oldskoolgames.com release a mag in PDF every now and then.

Agree, it is pricey, and is the reason why I shyed from buying it. They should of done a much better article on the 500, could of looked inside it talked about all the chips, what revisions, dates, all that sort of stuff it would of been nice to see... alas maybe next time. good to see a retro mag pop up tho.

I saw this some weeks ago - looked like a special issue of some mag. It is kind of like a book on gaming history published in magazine format.

As already stated its a special one-off expanded 'Retro' (that is usually a 32 page supplement in Games(TM) magazine). Its basically reprints from the first two years of the retro section.

I saw it today, seems ant512 is right, but it does seem miss-leading because it has an Australian flag in the corner which makes it look like an australian original magazine instead of a re-printed compilation of articles. It has the Space invaders alien that was given away in poster form with one of the retro gamer magazines on the cover. (from an old Crash magazine cover i believe)

Ops, sorry ant512, I see what you mean, the mag down herer has an aussie flag in the top RH corner of the mag, it made it look like a local mag that was going to cover retro stuff.

Look out for back issues of Retro Gamer Bundled with crappy PC gamer magazines at Aussie newsagents. I just picked up Retro Gamer issue 4 bundled with PCaction for $12.95.

Shelled out $24.95 for this (BEST OF games™) RETRO mag about two fortnights ago, "196 pages crammed full of essential retro gaming", Volume 1, WOO! I thought, must buy, and I did without hesitation! Still, a first printed/published date would 've been nice.
