3D FIFA Game Possible For Amiga?

Hello

I was wondering whether an early form of 3D FIFA would have been possible on an accelerated Amiga (030+)?

Regards,

Nope. The Amiga struggled with bog-standard Doom-style raycasting. Creating a real Quake-esque polygon engine would have been beyond everything but an 060, and it wouldn't have been particularly speedy on that.

Nothing 3D will cut it in the Amiga, it's that simple.

In any Amiga without a 3D accel card, that is.

Yes, but Payback and Quake were made to run on an 060 AGA Amiga, and at pretty decent speeds.

I've got Quake, and I played the demo of Payback. Maybe I've been spoiled by using computers that can actually handle 3D graphics, but both of those games are so slow as to be nearly unplayable.

The only way to have slightly complex 3D moving at decent speeds on 68k Amigas is to have a 2x2 pixel res.

The early 3D FIFA games used a 3D pitch, with 2D sprites for the players. The Amiga can handle this surely? Quake and Payback uses polygons for graphics. And 3D FIFA is not as complex as Quake or Doom. I think it can be made to run pretty well on Amiga. It ran on 3DO pretty well, and their processor was the equivalent to an 030, although the 3DO had better graphics (GPU). I think an Amiga with 060 AGA/GFX would handle it no problem.

In theory, this is worth to discuss but it doesn't worth to really make it methinks.

Hello

I think it may be worth doing this type of game. Amiga is lacking a modern football game (in terms of graphics). Sure, we have SWOS (possibly the best football game ever), but i would like to se a FIFA-esque game running on Amiga. Would Apex Designs do such a game?

3DO FIFA and FIFA 96 were okay.

Why do we really need complex 3D structures or millions of polygons, when you can easily get almost the same result by using 2D. Look at games like the original FIFA on amiga or Total Football from Domark. The games themselves aren't particularly good, but it's the style that makes them look 3D (more or less). Why not put the amiga to good use by letting it do what it does best, and that is smooth scrolling 2D graphics. If you're really good at creating 2D graphics, it could look just as good as a modern day FIFA (albeit a different style). If we had a 3D soccer game on the amiga, it would have to compromise with the complexity and special effects. Make it 2D and we can have both deep gameplay AND special effects on the field.
