AmigaOS does not support virutal memory. However, if your processor has a MMU, there are some packages which hack virtual memory into the system. The most popular one is VMM. But it makes the system quite instable and does not work on some modern system (maybe PPC, maybe OS3.9, don't know).

i use a program called gigamem, so far i've not had any problems.
as thomas said, you need a processor with MMU

that's 68020, 68030, 68040
not not EC versions like 68EC020 which is standard on a1200 and cheaper accelerators.

thing is though, i cant say i've really done anything yet that needs that extra ram

VMM was working correctly on my Amiga but i didn't like it because on Amiga there are no disk access if you don't tell it to do so, and VMM started to do a lot of hard disk access, that's slower and unconfortable.

It's really cool on Amiga because when you click on something, it immediatly answers even if CPU is 100% used. (Impossible if data is on the hard disk)

And when you use VMM you don't have the Start/Stop/Shut down button like on PC's so you must wait your hard disk stops access and you never know exactly when it's finished, and on Amiga a bad reboot could leads to DiskRepair .... very very long repairs...

So i never really liked virtual memory on Amiga....
