Question cd-rom icon when inserted

When I insert a cd-rom the standard floppy-disc icon appears. I wuold like to have a dedicated cd-rom icon, but in Env/Sys seems to be nothing i can
change.

I use Idefix '95. Can anyone help me?

Unless you've got OS3.5 or 3.9, there is almost nothing you can do. (Even with DefIcons which comes with the NewIcons package it is not possible AFAIK).

With OS3.5 you can create an icon in envarc:sys with the name of your CD-ROM drive. E.g. if your drive is named CD0, you call the icon envarc:sys/def_CD0.info.

Without OS3.5 you can change the floppy icon by creating envarc:sys/def_disk.info, but this applies to any disk, not only CD-ROMs.

However, there is a patch which allows you to replace the CD icon, IIRC it is called ForceIcon.

And there is a software package which allows you to virtually write to CDs. It is called WriteCD (or was it CD-Write ?)

For workbench 3.0/3.1, Scalos also offers this feature. You can have different icons for any device you choose simply by adding the ".info" files to the Scalos/icons drawer.

Can be done with Dopus Magellan, too - just change the def_xxx icon (I forget it's exact name)

Yes, DOpus can do this, too, but not by icon file name. You have to create a file type for the drive and can then add a default icon to the file type. And it only works if you use DOpus as workbench replacement. (Scalos is a workbench replacement too).

(THOMAS)
I found out Thomas made a mistake.
It is possible and it works on my A1200 (WB3.1 - KS3.0)
using DefIcons (NewIcons Package).
However thanks for the advice.
