The EAB is unaccessible on my broadband connection
Hi
I have spent the last two days out of my mind with worry as the EAB has been 'down' for two days. I also couldn't access the irc or anything to do with the network. I have just taken a short walk to the local college lab and - lo and behold - the EAB is up and running, and seems to have always been so. Naturaly I felt a little puzzled at it would sem to be due to my connection. Back home I tried accessing the site through IE as I usually use Mozilla but still I couldn't access the site. I then tried restoring my system to an earlier point and still no change. As a last ditch attempt I disconnected my broadband with Pipex and used our back up dial up service from AOL. This worked. It seemed that my broadband connection is 'banned' from accessing anything to do with the network. Can someone try and explain how to solve this?

Have you tried to surf with a proxy to reach the abime network ?

Try accessing it this way first (using a simple proxy, we'll use Google Translate as I cannot be bothered to find a real proxy): http://translate.google.com/translat...language_tools
Another thing to mention would be who your Service Provider is & where abouts in the country you are. Maybe there is a specific problem in that 1 location or with that 1 ISP. |

Some more....
Does abime.net (without the eab bit) work ? Do any other sites have problems ? Can you ping abime.net (open up a DOS/Command Prompt and type "ping abime.net" - you should get a message like "Replying from 80.239.168.80 time=32ms ttl=49" If the ping to abime.net doesn't work try pinging 80.239.168.80 directly as your ISP's DNS could be screwed. 80.239.168.80 is the IP of RCK's abime.net server. You could also try the link http://80.239.168.80/ which at the moment should take you direct to abime.net's homepage. Please note IP numbers are subject to change, but should remain as these for a few days at least. If none of these work then do a Trace Route. type "tracert abime.net" in the Command Prompt and paste your results in this forum (removing your IP address for security reasons if you like). To find out your IP address open Command Prompt and type ipconfig. |

The google translation page works; I get a translated EAB front page.
No other sites I have visited have problems. abime.net doesn't work. Pinging 80.239.168.80 produces a time out as does pinging abime.net The http://80.239.168.80 also times out. The trace route times out after step 7 to POS2-0.BR1.AMs3.Alter.NET [146.188.3.218] After that I just get repeated 'Request time out." I am in Lancashire, Lancaster and am using Pipex.

Phone up Pipex support and complain then. There is a link somewhere between you & EAB that isn't working. As both the abime.net and IP address don't work it is obviously not a fault with the DNS translation/server. The fault is purely a connection issue, as proven by your ability to access it via a proxy.
The problem is somewhere in the UK, as myself and many others can access EAB no problems on Broadband. I am using my brothers BT Broadband, Cambs. Please post the whole tracert results, cause then I will do a tracert and compare with mine. Talk about ping's, tracert's, IP addresses etc... with them so you sound like you know what you are talking about (even if you don't). Send your tracert results to them. Point them to this thread. I expect that other sites other than abime.net would have problems too if they are on the same backbone. Maybe RCK or someone could provide a list of other sites within the same IP range to check. |

P.S. Check this thread, seems you are not alone:
http://bbs.adslguide.org.uk/showthre...anded&sb=5&o=0 Alter.net / Pipex problem. Apparently Pipex are doing phish-all about it. So phone them. Point them to that thread. |

you could check these:
80.239.168.80 - abime.net home 80.239.168.88 - abime.net ftp 80.239.168.65 - abime.net external gateway IMO it's your ISP fault, maybe one message in their newsgroup would be enough |

Does it work because of you complaining, or did you just wait until they eventual got off their ass and fix the problem?
