I read it has the same CPU as PS2 so that means we should quickly expect SNES, Megadrive, C64 and other emulators from PS2 community to appear as soon as some method of taking "homebrew" comes out.

This COULD be a real killer handheld... wonder what battery life is like!??

Any of you guys heard about the Nintendo DS ? It could also be an interesting handheld console.

I can't see that the specs are the same as a PS2, that would just be crazy. Don't like the <cant remember the word> disc idea though.

Nintendo's offering looks underpowered in comparison... but it depends on what you want to do. If just sticking to "official" s/ware then who cares which... but for emulators and other functionality perhaps the PSP looks like the one.. will be interesting for sure.

Well, put this in your pocket then! I'll better buy a PS2 with a carrying case than this. The size of that thing is outrageous. Even bigger than the Lynx.

Really? Where?

Its looks pretty shite too.... I have to admit I am not impressed with the size of PSP but the spec knocks the DS into a hat any day

I was refering to Mr. Bad Language

I looks no bigger then the second version of the atari lynx, and of all the "portable" consoles that was the most comfortable to use for me.

It does look huge.

It reminds me of the 'portable' C64

Thumbs up

Looks a damm sight nicer than the prototype pic a few months back.
I wouldn't be holding my breath about many 2D titles though Akira-all the general info to date really seems to back up FromWithin's posts, it certainly wouldn't be surprising to see some PS2 game ports in the short term.

Longer term, the PS2 link up, will obviously help squeeze some new life out of the older format via the shared game content,eg:build a character up, play extra levels on PSP transfer back to PS2 etc.

Yes I liked the Lynx II also. Besides, the Zodiac is the same size as the PSP.

And unlike the foulmouthed Nintendo fanboy , I can see the appeal to both systems. I can see the attraction to the DS's retro styling, its children/teen target audience and no nonsense "just for games" approach (same as with the GC in many ways) but personally for me Sony's offering is more to what Im looking for in a handheld.

It's all screen, so I don't see the problem with it being big.

Now if the screen was as big as a Gameboys and it was that big, I'd be worried

As Meth said nowhere I read " PlayStation Handheld", the name is Portable.
[edit] Let me correct that. Handheld. Hand Held. Is the guy holding it with his feet or something? I think this IS a handheld. Portable is my Commodore SX64. THIS IS HANDHELD.

And dunno where you get your facts from mate, but this is SMALLER than a Lynx. I take it that you never owned one? I have the second version (which was smaller) and it's bigger than this.

No way I am comparing the NintendoDS to this, they are completely different machines IMO. Let's wait and see what Nintendo will pull because the PSP looks like the only device that is more catering to the current market. N64-like specs won't do it against this monster if you are selling it to Joe 3Dkiddy

I also think that this is more for an adult.

You seem to having a go at several people there Akira.

I said it LOOKS no bigger than a Lynx II, you said it's actually smaller, so in effect I'm right.

And yes I did have a lynx II (and I) actually.

My friend had a Lynx II. Used to enjoy the Gates of Zendecon...
Akira is right, the PSP looks adult orientated. I repeat the DS looks more children/teen target as its awwww cute

I think it looks ace, nice screen too. I don't see how it will be anywhere near as good as a PS2 though as it only has 2MB normal RAM and 2MB VRAM and you need WAY more than 2MB VRAM for it to be even remotely good even at 320x240, and this is likely to be running something like 800x480 anyway...

Thought they increased the vram size after the developers told them "not to be so silly"?
